When mine went out, the dealer replaced the HMI module it has been good since.

Yaa, my screen went out at 1000 miles on my 2016 Denali. Fortunately for me its did this 10 minutes before we begin towing our trailer on an extended holiday. As luck would have it its stuck on some radio channel with no reception at half volume. LOL . I was hoping this one would be a keeper as my 14 & 15 were in the shop steady. My 2006 had 150k on it and never saw the dealership.

Update:

I called GM directly and opened a case with them after my truck had been in the shop for two weeks. As it turns out, GM sent an HMI module for a '15 which is why it wouldn't program. They spent the entire two weeks trying to program the wrong module. Literally the day after I called GM, an "impossible to get" '16 module showed up at the dealership (they said it was on backorder until further notice). They installed it that day and it has been fine since. Hopefully this one fixes it for good.

I think the boys at the dealer fixed my Impala, after I told them what to look for.

Apparently there actually was an update for the radio.

Document ID 4481927.

Have had no problems for over a week now.

Usually have at least 2-3 problems per week.

I have the same problem. Screen went blank. No radio control other than steering wheel controls. Took it to the dealer for an update but was informed that because I am at 110,000 km I will have to pay for updating as I am off warranty. If I have to pay for a repair on this truck ( the list is starting to get very long) I am replacing the radio with a Dodge truck. I have had two Gm lemons in a row and I am tired of paying more for shitty quality :(

If you have had this problem before it ran out of warranty and they looked at it but didn't fix it while still under warranty, you still should be

able to get it fixed under warranty. All of the things you had done at the dealership is documented. This is a software update. According to my

work order it took .5 hours to update. That's all you should have to pay for if it's not under warranty. They download it to usb and install it.

All computer stuff....I agree with you though on the bull crap that has to be put up with, they should warrant this kind of thing longer.

Good luck...hate to see you drive a Dodge :), but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

They told me it is 0.8 hours to diagnose then whatever to do the update. So if you are correct ( I am guessing you are :) ) then it will be $150 to $200 just to update a radio. In less than 2.5 years the rear end leaked, new headlights because of moisture, 2 new O2 sensors, new left front hub, new radiator, fixed air conditioning, leaking onstar antenna and now my seat is moving which won't be warranty either now. Plus this radio thing. I am tired of going to the dealer once a month for repairs. My 2010 cost me $8000 before it hit 185,000 km and then they told me it needed a motor too. I take excellent care of my vehicles and this truck has cost me $2500 already to fix. It seems to that either I get all the bad ones or GM just over charges for their new shittier-every-year trucks. I have never liked Dodge or Ford but I get $22,000 off the price of a new Dodge through work which is $13,000 less than the fleet price on a comparable Gm. For that much money I have to try one. Even if it needs some repairs I should still be ahead in three years. Sadly I am going to switch.

It has been over a week that my truck has been in the shop and they haven't been able to fix the screen yet. My truck has been at the Chevy garage literally half the time I have owned it. Hopefully I'll have some good news to report soon, but as of this morning, they were waiting on GM engineering to call again. At least they gave me a rental this time, but it's still not my truck...

Apparently you made the mistake of buying the one with problems.

Sorry you are having so much trouble with your Chevy....

My '15 Chevy Impala has had a radio problem ever since I bought it. Bought it used with Certified Warranty.

Just really pissed me off...try to go somewhere and the damn radio doesn't work.

It was delivered in 2014 and they were looking for a 2015 update, which there wasn't one, but there was one

for 2014, which apparently my car didn't get for some reason.

I'm a mechanic and used to be one of those kids in the dealership, (many moons ago) I asked the dealer to check for an update for 2014

because the rpo number on my Impala matched the one in the bulletin mentioned above, and that turned out to be the fix.

(sometimes you gotta be just a little smarter than the car, and look a little deeper)

My dealership down here treats me good...they want to make sure I'm happy....

I love my '15 Chevy truck. I haven't had a minutes worth of trouble with it. Just lucky I guess.

If you must trade....I'd rather see you driving a Toyota than a Dodge or a Ford :lol

Toyota's are made here in Indiana, just a few miles from here.

Good luck!

Same with '16 Silverado with the latest auto-android update. Main screen went blank and remained dark....still dark after multiple starts...BUT screen still worked with the camera only when shifted into Reverse...removed and examined the RDO fuse in the passenger side cluster for about a minute which was OK.......screen came to life as soon as the fuse was reinserted.

Apparently a logic screw up somewhere in a million lines of code......hopefully they'll correct it in a few years.

Add my 2016 Sierra to the list of radio black out screens. Mine has done it while on a Bluetooth call, and when the radio was on. Completely shuts down and cant do anything till you shut the truck off.

Radio locked up and screen blacked out again this morning. I called OnStar and they couldn't do anything about it since it has occurred more than once. I will be taking it next week after the holiday. I will post up with the solution.

Evidently there is no permanent hardware or software fix - yet - and given the right set of conditions the My Link head will lock up and require a reboot. Should have a reboot button.

Checked with the dealer today when I was bringing in another vehicle for State inspection. They are aware of the problem and reboot the same way by removing then reinserting the RaDiO fuse in the passenger side fuse bank which is a lot easier than yanking the battery cable and also losing the tranny's learned settings.
