Not sure if this has been posted and if so can someone direct me to the thread.

My main screen quit working I have nothing but a black screen just great. Any one have this happen or no what is going on? It usually a 2 week wait to get into the dealer and I need my truck for the next month as i'll be on the road. The radio still works on the steering wheel controls but not even the buttons beneath the radio work to change stations or volume up or down.

About all you can do is disconnect battery. Leave unhooked for a minute or two. Capacitors need to discharge. Reconnect and try it. Nothing to loose. We do see logic lockup in radios from time to time though not necessarily 2014 Silverado's.

unhook battery and it came back to life. However obviously there must be a problem and im sure it will happen again. Updating if anyone else screen quits I would try that first.

i have had this same problem in my 14 denali twice. it eventually came back on, but it was annoying. if anyone else has a solution or heard of an update for this please post!

Seems to be a few variations of what is happening all related to the screen not working. Mine would not change if I touched the screen or would the buttons below like volume work. This isnt the first thread either. Sounds like more trouble to come in the future. YAY I love gm.

Mine blacked out on me last week for about 5 minutes. Thought it was (and could be) that i plugged a portable hard-drive in with about 300 gigs of music and it just couldn't manage the files, so it needed to reboot. However, since many of you are having the same problem, maybe it wasn't. I've also noticed some "glitchy" things, like it being able to read recent calls from my cell phone, and the other day it couldn't find my "favorite" stations on the information screen from my steering wheel controls.

Saw this on TECHLINK. I have the bluetooth issue and my service manager is going to update mine later this week...

Blank Touch Screen after Start-up and in Reverse

January 23, 2014

The infotainment touch screen may be blank after start-up and in Reverse, a rearview camera message may be displayed, and there may be Bluetooth® and navigation system conditions on the following models equipped with radio-infotainment system RPOs IO4, IO5, IO6 or RAO (except with RPO UPF):

• 2014 Silverado 1500 built prior to October 1, 2013

• 2014 Sierra 1500 built prior to October 1, 2013

Some possible Bluetooth conditions include the screen not returning to the Home screen after ending a call, cannot call contact work/mobile number for more than one contact with the same name, and issues concerning speech recognition.

Some navigation conditions include no results found after performing an address search with an incomplete address, the selection of a Point of Interest address delivers a wrong destination position, and the map freezing when panning in the 10k zoom scale.

An updated software calibration has been released to address these conditions.

Another update just came out on the 10th of March for this issue. As luck would have it my Sierra did it this morning, the tech is working on doing the update to mine now. My truck has a build date of January 2014 so this latest update covers even newer new vehicles. (actually it had a Buick or two on the list of models affected as well)

I was going to wait to post an experience I have had lately with my '14 CC LT, but might as well add to this post. I took my truck in to my dealership due to voice command working intermittently. After calls to GM Tech Support, the tech working on my truck "flashed" the radio. I received a call 3 days after dropping the truck off telling me all was fixed and my truck is ready. When I went in to pick it up that evening, the DIC was blank. The service writer and tech decided I was not takin gmy truck home. After more calls to GM Tech Support, a TAC case was opened and new DIC control module was sent out. Per my service writer on Tuesday, the part arrived and the truck should be good to go late Tuesday or early Wednesday. I followed up with the dealer yesterday, and was told the part showed up this moning and the truck should be ready to go late Wednesday or early Thursday. Well, it is almost lunch time and I still have not heard from the dealer, but I degress and apologize for venting.

I did not experience the blank radio screen, but thought I would share that an issue with MyLink voice command lead to a "flash" which resulted in a blanking of the DIC.

The tech did explain to me that the DIC control module probably had an issue that was pinted out by the updated flash on the MyLink. :nonod:

EDIT:

I just got off the phone with my service writer and was informed that they are replacing the whole cluster, not the DIC module.

This explains what happened to mine in reverse a month or so ago now. When I take mine in for the oil change going to let them know and have them flash the module and get a dealer ticket for my radio reception.

I've had this happen on 2 occasions now. I remote start the vehicle through the APP, get in the truck (normally at this point the touch screen will display a Denali logo screen as it boots up), the touch screen this time is dark and does not boot up. None of the dials work below the touch screen. Shut of the truck, open the doors to kill the radio and wait for about 5 minutes, turn on the truck and the Denali logo boot up screen appears and the infotainment screen and dials now function normally. Glitch.

    • Well one of our most reliable vehicles was sold yesterday. The first and only I gave for free to a grandkid. If they got skin in the game they take care of it. My wife bought new. Five years later my daughter got it to use. We got it back and gave it to our grandson after graduation. He did zero maintenance just oil changes. When the AC quit he drove his mother’s car rather than get it fixed. Instead he just bought a beater and sold the Elantra.
    • I usually do as well or better than the sticker for mileage. Usually better going west than east. North then South. Wind makes a difference. I’m not usually a conspiracy theorist. But it did dawn on me I’m going by the vehicle calculation. Now that would be interesting.

    • What’s missing in all this is patience and investment in the future. Buy a 170K starter home. Ten years later sell it invest in a more expensive home. Eventually you’ll have a 600K home and pay starter home payments. Buy a starter car. Maintain it well. Save the payments after it’s payed for then buy an expensive car if you desire. Buy a tumbler make your own coffee, pack your lunch. Cook your own dinner. Most importantly take care of your car.
    • People mislead themselves. Statistics are highly useful indicators.   Here's the tie-in to this thread. If an oil sample tests shows a wear indicator of 7 using cheaper ACDelco oil, and a wear indicator of 2 (lower = less wear) using a particular brand of Mobil oil, and wear has a linear relationship with engine lifespan, anyone could assume that Mobil is reducing wear by more than 50% (let's just say a 200% reduction for you red state people trying hard to do math) which leads to increasing engine life by 2x. Perhaps, in a vacuum, by itself, when dreamed by AI.   Yeah?! That's what the statistic is saying, isn't it?   No, it isn't. It didn't come out and say engine life is doubled. That's a very bad assumption, and a case of severe myopia by assuming something potentially untrue about the only data point in focus.   Average cost of a new car is 50k. You bet it is.   The median cost of a new car is more like 35k. Expensive cars are skewing the perception that "average" now means a $50k price of entry for a very average automobile. And that's not true. People who don't understand statistics twist the living heck out of them to mean all sorts of things they don't actually mean.   "Average" new car payment is $1000/month. Yep, it is. And in that number are all the $35k new car buyers who bring significant equity, and the $25k new car buyers who finance the car for a month just to get a rebate, and then pay it off. Know what isn't in that number? All the payments made by people who don't finance a car.   Picking one's own data point (don't have a car payment, never paid $50k for a new vehicle, my house cost $170k, I afforded a middle class lifestyle on $4.50/hr) is just a data point. Just like earning $25/hr in an area where the median home price is almost $1 Million is a data point. In fact, it's a lot of data points given that 80% of the US population lives in/around major cities. They're not idiots; the vast majority of them do it to make a living because that's where the big money is.   The highs have become higher, lows have become lower, and how your personal mileage varies is not truth for an entire country. At the same time you can't NOT acknowledge the data. While it doesn't paint YOUR personal picture, it certainly tints the reality that you also live in, as does your single data point.
