My 2015 Yukon has been in the shop for over a week for the 'blank' screen issue.

The first thing they did was the firmware update. All was said to be fixed and working. Two days later, when we went to pick up the vehicle up , the technician was driving the vehicle around to us and noticed the screen was blank again.

The 2nd thing GM informs the tech to do is to check the connection between the HMI module and the screen. If the connections are good, then they are informed to order a new screen.

The new screen arrived and was installed and we were told all is good and that they checked it twice with no issues. Today, they had the vehicle already pulled around waiting on me when I got there. Guess what? I get in the vehicle, start the vehicle......and still have a blank screen. The service manager sees me waving my hands in the air in frustration and comes to find it still not working.

........note, when pressing the screen, the stations will change, etc. but it is just blank.......

I will assume the next step is to replace the HMI module itself, but from my research, it looks like those are not to stable either.........

The service manager stated he was not for sure of the next step and we are awaiting direction from GM.

I have truly come to regret purchasing this vehicle. Next month marks 1 year of ownership of this truck, with a total of 2 months of repair time in the shop.

I posted on page 2 of this thread months ago and got a software update. All has been well until today. I came back from a 3 day business trip, had my truck parked at the Tampa airport, level 3 of the garage. So it was not in the sunlight or elements. Driving home my screen goes black for a few minutes.... comes back. Few minutes later screen is black again. Few more minutes it's back. I noticed the trip A and B were not reset, however I did notice the oil life meter was reset to 97%. It was at 30? During my first black screen incident, the oil meter was reset also. I'm at 37k miles, perfect timing. 1k out of warranty. Truck is 18 mo old. I can this them trying to have me pay for this. I won't. I'll rip the F****ing thing out and put in an old school Stereo. I've had quite a few issues with this truck, all mechanical leaks. I've been wondering if the truck has this many repairs when it's under warranty, how many is going to need out of warranty. Here is my first issue out of warranty....

Update: I drove my truck today to the gym and HD. No issues today. But my oil % meter was reset yesterday.... I'm at 96% today. I have lost faith in the oil % system if it resets like that. I'm going to put a sticker on the windscreen for 7,500mi OCI's as a reminder that cannot be reset. That is what the computer will run you up to unless you're really sucking fuel.

Update 2/7. Screen is working good. No issues since Friday 2/5. Not sure what all that was about Friday coming home from the airport after sitting 3 days.

2016 Colorado Infotainment screen has gone black- it's only 6 weeks off the lot. The radio will not play even from the hand controls, but the instrument cluster is still working.

A great start; I'll have to see what the dealer has to say in the morning. I'm annoyed, and even more concerned after reading this thread!

This is my first Chev after a bad breakup with Ford. Maybe the "right one" isn't out there...

Maybe like in post #3 you can unhook the battery for a few minutes & reconnect to see if that cures it?

If it saves a trip to a dealership service dept, it may be worth the attempt.

Hi all,

I just joined this forum and I wanted to chime in. I purchased a 2016 Silverado about 2 weeks ago and it's already in the shop for the infotainment screen not working. It just went blank one day and the steering wheel controls will control the radio for a while, but after a few minutes of driving, hopefully I've picked a good station because it won't change until I shut the truck off and start it again. The dealership tried changing the wire from the HMI module and the module itself, but those didn't do it. So, I get to wait until next week when they'll (hopefully) hear back from GM on what to do. If anyone has any updates on anything similar, please let me know. Thanks!

Bought two Chevy Colorados. One for me and one for the wife. She has about 3000 miles give or take on it and the screen did exactly as described above. No screen, no radio, no Bluetooth, etc.

Now we're going to be down a truck because of this. Might try the battery thing but obviously there's a problem here that needs to be fixed.

It has been over a week that my truck has been in the shop and they haven't been able to fix the screen yet. My truck has been at the Chevy garage literally half the time I have owned it. Hopefully I'll have some good news to report soon, but as of this morning, they were waiting on GM engineering to call again. At least they gave me a rental this time, but it's still not my truck...

What ended up happening with your situation? Just curious as to what I should expect.

Good morning Heavyiron66,

I am sorry you are experiencing these concerns with your Silverado. I would also like to apologize for the length of time your vehicle has been in the shop and any inconvenience this has caused. I would be more than happy to reach out to the dealer on your behalf to see if there are any new developments. Please private message me if you would like this additional assistance.

Best,

Julianne M.

I had the same issue. Brand new 2016 Yukon Denali. The screen still worked and the buttons on the screen worked but NONE of the physical buttons like volume, on/off, and media button worked.

After letting the car sit off for about 3 hours, all the buttons worked again.

Next time I'll record it on my phone and bring it to the dealer.

Hi all. I'm new to forum but I'm having this issue now in my new 2016 GMC Sierra Denali 1500 Crew Cab. I recently had a software update to be able to use the projection function and two days later, my screen was blank. My steering wheel controls still work but radio buttons and screen is out. I seen on here that unhooking the battery for a few hours helped...not in my situation. I even unhook both battery post overnight....still nothing. The vehicle now has been at the dealership for 6 days. They are unsure what the problem is. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi - New guy to this site. Just purchased a 2016 Silverado LTZ. I now have just over 1,000 miles on it and the touch screen went black for about 5 seconds then came back on. Is the going to continue to be an issue? What's the fix?

I have the same problem. On my last oil change, I had the android auto update done and also asked them to look at this issue. In the 6 months that I've owned the truck, it has happened maybe 5 or 6 times. They claimed there was a software update. I had them perform that. Got the truck back about 9 days ago, and then this morning, same thing, blank screen and no-op

I have similar problem 2016 Silverado except my cluster just flashes and I will call it a tick the gauges jump about 1/4 in and resets and loose all functions of radio and the touch screen just showed random temp and radio identification number with blinking time stamp? What's really bad is it so random that we jump in truck and drive 2-3 hr and it will do it when we are ready to head home and we have no cluster to know our speed or engine functions. I have been able to reset by disconnecting battery to get functions back to safely drive home. I have talked to dealership they haven't seen or heard anything like this happening and are wanting to do a software flash and see if it's just a update? Anyone else seen issues like this before. Just curious
