2017SierraSLT Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) That came out really nice. It looks like a true factory installation. Edited February 20, 2014 by 2013sierrasle 1
shortnugly Posted April 10, 2014 Author Posted April 10, 2014 Awesome, detailed write up. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Ok, how did I miss this? You gonna tease us or post some pics of this little scalpel?
SILVERADOSC540 Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Shortnugly, I've got a few here, but will get more as Iowa begins to thaw out... http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/159313-silveradosc540-no-longer/page-11
Zebrafive Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Tucks in nicely. Shot of the bracket that supported the old bumper. 3/4" space. Gonna fab up some aluminum dowels to wedge in there on both sides. Tap one end and secure with a fender washer. New bumper sits up against the bed. Last photo "New bumper sits up against the bed" Could the bumper have been mounted further back? Maybe elongate some holes? Or could the bumper have been notched (and not show) for more clearance? My worry would be a light hit to the bumper would transfer damage to the box (which seem to dent easily) Also, are you able to reach behind the bumper to wash the box corner? It bugs me I can't on my 2011 Silverado.
shortnugly Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Sorry about the delay in responding. No further adjustment back. Even if it was to make a small indentation or rub slightly, I'm not worried about it. I think it's well worth the great utility of the step bumper. I'll try to get another/better picture and post up.
lancer10285 Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Did you install the bumper onto a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton? I tried doing the same install on my 1/2 and the dimensions on the 2014 frame rail bracket would not match.
eddietorn Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 (edited) Truck looks sweet. New stainless bumper really compliments the rear of your white truck. Thanks for posting and updating. Edited March 19, 2015 by eddietorn
shortnugly Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 Thanks guys. Bumper was from a '14 1500 onto my '12 1500. Bumper mounting points were a precise match. I could be wrong but the mounting points shouldn't have changed on the GMT900 series. I could see it not working with a 2500 to 1500 attempt. WAY worth the money for this easy upgrade.
WilliamBos Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Thanks for sharing this, love the upgrade. Is the new 14 style bumper strong in the corners where the foot step is?
shortnugly Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 Yeah, strong enough. You can feel it flex just a little when stepping up. You'd have to be a 450 pounder to tweak it.
92ss wagon Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I'm in the process of this mod, my truck is a nnbs Silverado 1500. The 14 bumper I have is off a Sierra. The brackets do not line up with the new bumper. did you use the brackets of the old bumper? or new ones? I'm assuming new since there was no mention of swapping them. any help is great thanks
92ss wagon Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 It's odd my old brackets measure 41" spread, the 2014 brackets measure 41.75" spread. So I found the problem just not sure of the solution
allwhite_chevy Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) I seem to be having a problem with mounting my 14 bumper on my 07.5 silverado. The inner brackets are hitting the bed and it's about 3/8" from the holes lining up. It seems as if the arms aren't long enough. Any suggestions? I should have taken a picture to show you what my problem is but I got frustrated and abandoned the bumper swap. Edited March 1, 2016 by allwhite_chevy
