Water leak in the roof

2 weeks ago I found that something was leaking in my 14.

First time it happened I was leaving work and it was raining and not til about 5 Mins later did I realize my leg was getting dripped on from my sun visor.

Looked at my sunroof drains and didn’t see anything blocking them, so I blew them out anyway for good measure.

My truck sat for over a week and rained the night before I drove it again. Nothing appeared wet when I got in but as soon as I started driving and came to a stop more drops, now leaking from both sides of my head liner by the overhead counsel lights.

Anyway it’s been raining all day so I went for a drive hit my brakes pretty good and water now coming from the end of the headliner by the windshield.

long story short and pulled headliner down and poured a bunch of water around the sunroof as my wife was watching and nothing. Then I moved to the antenna and bingo. Drip drip drip

i pulled the antenna out but nothing looked to be bad with it? Im gonna clean the roof off and the gasket and tighten it nice and good.

How difficult is it to pull headliner down to get to the antenna? I was quoted $450 to repair since the dealer didn't listen to my constant "It is leaking" complaints and now the OnStar antenna is bad. I can purchase a new antenna and seal for under $100.

My truck is a 2014 Sliverado High Country with a Sunroof.

It’s not hard. If you can turn a screwdriver you should be able to take it down.

It’s going to the dealer tomorrow morning. It is still leaking after reinstalling and tightening it.

Hopefully they replace the antenna.

I own 2010 gmc wt1500 4x4 regular cab it has only 58000 miles my roof is leaking around the inside convience lights its even going into the lights themselves also it started leaking around the right and left side post airbags I was worried about that it might short out my airbags in the posts so I it is at the body shop now I looked to see if they have any recalls on this issue but I havnt seen none I live in ne south Dakota so it does get cold and snowy in the winter here .

Well it seems my '15 Sierra has water leaking in and onto the headliner but not sure yet if it is due to the "shark fin" or could it be what is termed the roof ditch that is covered with the black plastic trim?

Noticed while searching the internet that several GM vehicles are known to have had bad seam sealing in this area of the "roof ditch".

I noticed a water stain on the headliner just above the a-pillar trim (which also shows signs of being wet) and then water droplets are visible from below the a-pillar where the dash meets up to the weatherstrip. Also had a puddle of water on my WT floor liner.

So far the headliner has not been wet around the visor mounts so thinking it's not from the roof-mounted antenna, or could it be??

Looks like a visit to the dealer is in order, expecting to hear them say "We've never seen that before."

In addition to my post above, here are some pics.

Unfortunately these were taken after the water had dried.

Finger pointing to where the water was at the base of the a-pillar trim, along the dash plastic & weatherstrip, and on the floor liner where the water collected.

I had similar issue... both my '17 (that GM bought back) and my '18. Not sure what the fix was to the '17 as they bought back after it fried the computer. (wires under driver floor board were al wet and Stabilatrack acted up, 4wheel drive auto switched on and would not deactivate, steering reduced etc). On the '18 they found both the antenna (shark fin) and windshield to be leaking. Not sure the the bulletin # but the dealer knew right away when I came in (this time). Pretty sure the service guy was scared when I drove in and said "#$^%'n water everywhere again". the GM and Director of service both came out within 2 minutes. Director said bulletin this and that and here are the keys to a loaner truck and come back in 2 days blah blah blah... Not an issue since. (that was in the spring). Good luck

For those who repaired the leak or had it repaired, was there any issue with the antenna in regards to defects other than seal used to keep water from getting through the hole?

One dealer says they replace the antenna as they have seen some that have warped, the other says no need to replace the antenna.

I’m wondering if there’s even a better, lower profile antenna out there that’s made and seals much better? I’d jump on it even without having current issues.

Water under the fin but no leaks that I can find. Sat radio is dead, channel 0 and 1. No signal. Believe the water affected the antenna and I hope that GM doesn't screw the repair up.

Anyone have total loss of SXM?

To update that the shop replaced the antenna with a new one, with the gap in the gasket facing forward unlike the way it was originally facing to the rear of the truck. So far no leaks.

I looked at several used and new late model Chevrolet & GMC trucks on their lot and some had the gap facing front, some facing rearward. All the new ones went forward as it makes sense to be able to have any water drain down and out!
