These young guys that work at dealerships, or even parts stores today only know what the computer tells them. There is always someone around the proverbial corner who knows of a better way.

Anyone here looking for DL3 powerfold mirrors and harnesses? I have a set forsale in the Forsale sections. :D

Hey everyone just an update on my build , was not able to convince my sales gal to let me pop any door panels so I wasn't able to confirm the unicorn harness exists . I have managed to find a cheap used set of DL8 harnesses that I am having shipped this week - 50$ CDN for the pair - still hard to find these items cheap - at least here in Canada

Mirror switch which was USA only stock has yet to arrive either.

My plan is to use the pass. harness as the donor and build the driver one on my bench so its plug and play when i get the door panel off and only have to pull and wire the passenger one - after some good advise I'm also going to pin it for the auto dim so down the road when I swap my rear view i can wire that feature as well.

Getting colder by the day here so its looking more and more likely i wont be doing the swap until spring - or if i have a decent day where i can run the heater in the garage for a few hours to heat er' up enough to be comfortable pulling door panels again!

Hey All, just completed the DL8 to DL3 mirror swap on my '15 GMC Sierra SLE. The magical door harness from the All Terrain exists. I bought a set of dl3 mirrors and door harness from a guy with a '16 GMC All Terrain without memory seats. The mirrors AND harnesses were plug and play, No flashing required. No splicing of any wires. No running new wires. I also bought the powerfold switch to complete the mod.

mirror part #'s 23180074 and 23499472

harness part #'s 23342729 and 23342715

powerfold switch # 23154702

This worked on my truck (dec/14 build), can't say it will work on everyone elses.

Hope this helps.

This is good news! What are the chances I could convince you to re-open the panels and get pinout assignments of the different connectors? I would be curious to know how they are wired up. And is an "All Terrain" model an SLE or lower trim? Thanks for the update!

So, just to be clear.... swapping to a set of DL3's, replacing the mirror switch w/ part #23154702 and replacing the driver and passenger side harnesses with 23342729 & 23342715 got you full functioning DL3's? Power adjust, heat, power fold, turn signals & puddle lights? No additional wires or grounds? Just want to confirm as I have already installed the DL3's and the switch for power adjust, fold and heat and have a line on both harnesses noted.

rpsixeight68 That is correct, no additional wiring at all. Though i should have mentioned that of course the auto dim and curb tilt features do not work. I haven't tried the fold with the remote yet either, i'm guessing it wont work. The only other thing not checked is the heat, feeling like it will work seeing as the other main features work.

pgamboa I had to have my friend, who is a Tech do the work as the weather here in Canada is not favourable. So, at this time I will not be taking it apart. Maybe when the warmer weather comes back.. Sorry!

No worries at all! Completely understand. Auto Dim wouldn't work because it is dependent on having an Auto Dim Rear View Mirror. When the Rear View Mirror engages, it sends the signal to the Driver Side Mirror to dim.

Has anyone been successful at getting the "flash" done to enable curb tilt etc on the dl8 to dl3 mirror swap?

I tried. I have a good relationship with my Service Advisor and after showing him my binder of work, photos, and all, he said "Sure, we can flash the LTZ Profile on your BCM. 30 Minutes and $60." I was tickled to death. An hour later, he came out with bad news that his tech said "You should know better. Unless you have the cab chassis truck, we don't have the calibration codes to perform this work on any other truck models". They called Tech Assist and was told my truck is not listed as a qualified truck to get the programming.

Rick98 that's awesome to hear that the unicorn harness does in fact exist and work. I will certainly be hunting for these now as I too have not ventured to do this myself yet because of our awesome Manitoba winter we've been having even to heat up my garage isn't the best option.

thanks for sharing your success!

If you end up getting these, please PM me so I can understand the pinout for compatibility before you install it. I am going to try and source a set myself, but I'm up to my eyeballs in harnesses. LOL.

Bummer, I received one of my 2 harness's I ordered. Now I have to wait till Tuesday for the other to do the project.

I broke down and ordered the harness's since I loose my left turn signal periodically. I give up trying to work under the dash... :nonod:

With the help of No Tyme providing me with the pinout for the passenger side, this harness appears to be designed for towing mirrors and not DL3s.

It is pinned such that Seat Memory has been removed.

Rick08 - The reason this appears to be working is because:

- Turn Signal Circuit is pinned correctly.

- Your Puddle Lamps are functioning as Park Lamps and not as true Puddle Lamps.

- Seat Memory / Serial Data Bus # 8 is removed

This passenger harness is pinned for Turn Signal, Heated, Power Fold, Courtesy Lamp (Cargo Lamp), Park Lamps. Both ground circuits are present as well.

We should have more info on the Driver's Side harness in the next day or so.

Unfortunately, this is not the "unicorn" we've been looking for.

    • And to top it off finally.......................these small GM LS engines are designed to SPIN!!!!!  Why choke them down to just off idle for cruising.  Why/how the "bean counters" have influenced the "engineering department" at GM is beyond me.   They took a solid platform of an engine and turned into a joke in OEM form!!!
    • Atlas,   Then following your logic we can't believe any story that the MSM produces? I mean it's documented they heavily donate to Democrat candidates. Vote Democrat in high percentages. Many MSM talents are married to Democrat politicians, Gov. employees. That goes for on-air and off, personalities and reporters. So they would all be biased and nothing they produce is to be believed in your mind?   Again the article simply was about ways AI can be used for pricing products. Nothing discounted current situations as a factor.    Again keep looking through your left/right lenses. I don't live my life that way.   And as a heads up this thread will be cleaned up again as much of this is off topic and is receiving
    • Yes, and only a couple years before delivery. 🙄
    • So you're saying toss the baby out with the bathwater? @txab posted article was her take on how AI can be used to manipulate pricing as it already does and has been rebuked by the judiciasry in housing. How AI can be and is used to maximize refinery or even Amazon operations all of which are true but because she is who she is; that makes what she says about what is true, false? Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it.
