Nav system via Onstar?

Built in Nav was a $495 option independent of OnStar and worth every nickel..and no need to pay for the OnStar Nav direction option.......went through 3 Garmin/Magellans over the years and gave up on stupid suction or bean bag mounts, dead batteries, and setting them up every startup......not to mention being an attractive nuisance and having to hide it or take it with you to prevent some jacka$$ from breaking a window to steal it. My Nav is better than any handheld I ever had and ready at a moments notice to act upon voice command or steering wheel button entry to find the nearest gas station, restaurant or GM dealer and provide voice guidance and display the map on a large builtin 8" screen instead of squinting at a windshield or dash mounted 5" screen. And it makes the vehicle more desirable and worth extra bucks when it comes time to trade.

 

The '16s MyLinks without Navs can get the auto android upgrade and then network your cell phone through the usb bus and show videos or better use Google maps on the 8" screen working almost like the factory Nav and better than any aftermarket handheld GPS.

Two year old post. Update, I now use my I phone throu my car via voice commands with my ten year old garman as back up just for kicks. In a minute I can toss it in the glove box no hassles. I don't bother with the car GPS, for I can program the others in side the house while I'm planing my trips and locations.

I installed the Android Auto app on my Galaxy S4 and use Google maps for navigation. It would be nice if the Waze app would display on the factory screen but the Google maps work well enough. Really disappointed that GM forces Onstar. I really hate the turn by turn directions. God forbid you make a wrong turn or have to take a detour due to traffic or construction. Or if you're looking for that old dirt road where you used to go parking with your wife, the map view comes in really handy. Especially since you only have 30 minutes to spare before you pick up the kids.....turn by turn is horrid.

another option is the Rosen Electronics unit. It's comparable to the GM navigation module and around the same price but from what I've read on other forums the actual navigation is better. No more driving in circles, bad routes or gps confusion.

 

also comes with a nice trip computer that destroys the crappy cOnStar system

Either way phone Nav always a data hog. If you're an unlimited plan strike gold because it works like a charm. Shot out to Thomcat bc it works! Perfect solution. Cricket has best mobile plans btw, and regardless of whatever they say about spending for when we need or want it, Onstar suxxxx....smh!

Okay, I thought that I was in this group. But according to my window sticker I do have it. Going from a 2015 1500 LT to a 2016 2500 LTZ I had better have it. If I didn't you all would have seen the explosion from your place. LOL.
