paul53090 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I bought a new 2014 gmc sierra all terrain. Brought it home and noticed the spare tire was gone. The cable had been cut.so I called the dealer right away and they said they would order a new one and let me know when it comes in. I had a trip planned that weekend and the tire didn't come in in time. So they took one off of a truck they had there and put it on my truck.I looked at the tire they gave me and it appears to be a black aluminum rim 17". The tires on my truck are 18". Just wondering if this is the correct tire they gave me?? When I was looking at the truck with the salesman I asked about the spare and he said it was a steel rim....If someone has the same truck could you check to see what you have for a spare? Thanks
RyanbabZ71 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Yes it is correct. The overall height (17" plus tire) will be the same as your 18's and tire dia. Normal for many years now Even our tahoe with 20s had a 17" spare but overall height was the same.
pm26 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Typically, GM spare wheels mounted under the vehicle or in the trunk will always be a steel wheel. When the tire is mounted on the back of a vehicle, as on some SUVs, they will sometime use a full size aluminum rim spare.
TxTruckMan Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 The hieght will be the same. So as long as it clears the brake calipers you'll be fine.
gtstricky Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 You can also check your door sticker. It will show the spare size that shipped with the truck.
2016 Sierra Owner Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Yes mine is black painted aluminum. My 2009 also had the same style wheel.
Chris Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I know the black painted aluminum were supposedly common on the hybrid models
