i bought a new compressor the other day. its my first compressor. its a sanborn tank but im fairly certain that its been frankensteined.it has a briggs and stratton motor on it. it seems to run really good i just have some concerns.

i cant find the oil check window on the compresspor. i just talked to the guy again and he said that he cant remember for sure but he thinks there is a window its just hard to tell because the oil is black if he remembers corectly. should it be black???? im guessing not but im not sure. also everywhere i have read most compressors say to fill it to about half way up the window. there is what i think is supposed to be the window but it looks to me like just a black plastic insert on the front of the pump. can someone help me with this?

like i said this is my first air compressor. ive used a lot of compressors but have never had to maintain one or owned one

My compressors just have a drain and fill plug. Fill through the fill plug 'till full at the bottom of the threads, iirc

Just to be clear we are talking the compressor pump and not your B&S motor right?

Probably not a bad idea to change it

Yes the compressor pump. The b&s has fresh clean oil and runs pretty good other then I need to fix the air intake.

The compressor pump has 2 plug looking things with square heads towards the bottom of the front one bigger then the other. The. There is another small one on the side pretty much at the top. I tried to get a picture but I couldn't get enough light I will try to get one soon though.

Yep looks very similar to that. Do you know how much it takes? Either way I think I'll just change it so I know it's good to go.

I checked the oil fill on the pump it's full and looks brand new so I left it alone thanks for the help. Now one other thing has come up. The guy that sold it to me said that when it gets to the max pressure there is a clutch that makes it stop pumping air. However it got to 155psi and it didn't seem to stop the gauge goes to 165 then the rest is in red is there a way to adjust the clutch to stop at a lower pressure? I noticed there is a screw with a spring on it behind the pulley on the pump would that be it?

I got it all figured out. The person that owned it before me had the pressure as high as it would go. So I adjusted it down to a safe level and it is working great now
