The Good News at 859 miles is........

............that the tire pressure monitor system works on my truck.

Bad news is, I have to go and find a replacement rear tire in the morning.

Lots of construction on the freeway to and from work and a nice big slice of metal found its way into my tire. Its shot.

Luckily, the low pressure warning came on, and I was able to make it to the nearest gas station to air it up, and beat tracks home in the pouring rain. 20 miles worth.

Changed over to the spare in the "comfort" of my own garage.

Like i told the wife- could have been worse.

Yes, could have been worse. The TPMS is a life saver, should be standard on all cars. Low or high tire pressure accounts for many accidents.

You're right - it could have been worse. Glad everything worked out. At least you've got such low mileage on the other tires that you won't have to worry about mis-matched treadlife!

I believe it became law to have tpms several years ago after the Explorer rollovers.

TPMS became mandatory in light duty vehicles in 2008 in the US.

Had my truck in for service and they rotated the tires and screwed up my tire pressure. They didn't reset the TPMS. Decided to do it myself and realized (after cursing for 5 minutes and reading the manual) that you must have the relearn tool. Big change from gmt900 Wtf.

Welcome to 2007!!!

I guess you missed post #4 and #5 where that was pointed out in a polite way. But I guess you had the need to point out that you knew and someone else didn't. Very relevant.

I can't get that George Strait song out of my head, "I Hate Everything"

Wait - gotta have a tool now?

Not a big deal... I never did the relearn on my '10 after rotating tires ...just remembered the monitor was backwards.

No - you have to go by the diagram on the DIC no matter what! If it indicates my left rear tire is flat, and I see looks full, by God I'm good to go. Since the TPMS doesn't recognize that blown-out left front tire, it's just my imagination.

Semi related topic, but my door sticker recommends 32psi for all 4, 20" Goodyear SRA's. This LOOKS fine for the rear, but looks a bit low on the front based solely on the tire squat. Anybody else notice this?

yea. TPMS are great.

Sucks to hear you scrapped a tire.

Second time around back to back. Last year, new Camaro on the same stretch of road, flat tire in right rear (same position) at 3600 miles.

Too many scrap haulers running loads and not tarping their trailers on I-77 near Cleveland.
