6.2 Exhaust, What do you have?

After reading bdbake01's post on muffler delete, I went ahead and did it. I just couldn't swallow 1k or more for a sound adder.

Results? Truck has decent growl, but it is subtle. Windows up cruising takes a good ear to notice the added sound. When pushing the throttle you can hear it more, especially when the exhaust echoes off a bridge or house you know how good it sounds. However, in cab it is pretty quiet. I think it has more to do with how quiet the cab of these trucks are then anything. I do notice a tad of drone right before my truck switches back in V8 mode, I hear a slight helicopter sound but it goes away right after going back into V8. My only guess is that at that point in V4 is has enough exhaust pressure to open the flapper valve, but under that amount of pressure it is going to go into V8 promptly.

I like it for what I spent.

Here is a video of the exhaust. Sorry no real driving as I just clipped my phone to the bumper. It falls at the end.

Not the greatest video and I left two big patches of BFG KO2 on the pavement :driving:

I had a set of QTP on my GTO and those things were only good for a few weeks before the motors went to shit.

Ya that is something that I heard about electric cutouts. I would think they have a warranty though.

There are good ones out there. The QTPs had a 30 day warranty so I had them rebuilt and got them back and sure enough they went to shit again and would get stuck and refuse to close or open. In the end I took them off and got some block off plates and if I wanted to be loud I would just unbolt the block offs and bolt on the turn downs.

What would you consider the "good ones". When looking online the QTP looked better built than the cheaper priced ones.

I have heard nothing bad about DMH cutouts.

This is the same thing I am doing, they had to order the muffler. Same one you got. Should be here Thursday.

How do you like it? I am planning to leave the flapper intact as u can always clamp it open. This way you have 2 options easily changed.

Did you leave yours intact?

No, I just had them cut it out. It's not too loud with the flapper removed and I don't want to have to deal with it flapping around or bolting ity it open or having it make noise in the future.

What

I have heard nothing bad about DMH cutouts.

Wow ya I went to their website. Looks solid. 4 year warranty! And cheaper? SOLD!

So what about manual exhaust cut outs? Wouldn't those be a lot more "reliable" than the electric ones? Cheaper too I'm assuming.

Are you talking about the cable operated ones? Or where there is a y in the pipe and you unbolt the block off plate?

Ya I dont want to crawl under my truck every time I want it changed. The 4 year warranty on the DMH has me sold so that is what I'm going with.

You gotta get under there and remove the screws manually to open and close it.

Let me know how it all goes for you, if it works out well I really want to get one of my own.

I just bought the Gibson dual out he passenger side. Good fit and good sound. Nice rumble with no drone on the highway. Sounds better then the magnaflow I had on my 2014 Silverado. I also have the AFM turned off so I don't know how it sounds in V4 mode though..
