GM drops the ball on seat belt guides. Really?

Here's a copy of my post with details...Rear seat comfort guides holds the seat belt off of your shoulder. My DC did not come with the rear seat belt comfort guides. Dealer parts guy said the CC models do and was surprised that my DC didn't. I gave him a copy of the pages from the Owner's Manual to show him what they look like. He then tried to order them. They came in with pins on the end instead of the clip needed for the DC (these are the type for the CC). Contacted GM Customer Care through the forum. Jennifer provided part no. 20944862. My dealer parts guy ordered them for me. He also said there is another style with a pin on the end instead of the clip.

My parts guy really didn't know what was up with this when I originally ordered. GM (Jennifer) gave me the correct part number for the clip end type. I'm not going to disagree that they shouldn't come with the truck. But if you look at this from GM's perspective, if you can afford a $56K you can afford a $10 part. Keep in mind at $10 a part for 437,000 trucks sold that's a cost of 4,370,000 for GM; a cost GM doesn't need to make with their financial position right now. I do wonder if the other manufacturers include the part with their trucks. My friends 2013 F-150 didn't come with one.

 

Anyway I digress, the OP was out of line attacking patriots credibility; it seems silly to tarnish your repectibility as a poster over something like a $10 part. If the argument is over safety, why not argue, GM should include collision avoidance as a standard item? We're among friends here, really no need to insult people over such trivial things.

I wouldnt have responded that way if he hadnt went after me like I was a low life for asking GM to supply a part that I feel and some others feel should be standard. I also carried some over from another thread that he was also flapping on. Being disrespectful tends to bring disrespect right back. That being said however I should not have dropped to that level and I apologize. Midnight shift tends to make me short with things like that. It was more of sarcasm but still I apologize

 

As for the safety part of it, when your friends 10 year old in the back seat has the seatbelt across his face and no way to adjust it otherwise, I call that safety. But, I also see your point of the issue as well. However, I still feel at the cost of my truck was 50K + a simple part like that should be included.

I was surprised at your initial response, you have always been a reasonable poster in my encounters; oh well it happens from time to time. Moving back to the topic at hand, there's no doubt GM left off some things here and there, but lately so have all the other manufacturers. With mpg standards, labor costs, taxes, supplies and inflation on the rise manufacturers have to do what they can to keep costs reasonable for us "joe the plumbers" while still managing to fund legacy costs and turn a profit. In reality i would probably be a bit more vocal if only GM were skimping the pennies but as i mentioned earlier, every manufacturer is doing it.....heck my owners manual case is a ziplock bag! Im sure the bean counters calculated how many buyers actually needed their seat belt clip. It's sad to think those sacrifices were made in the name of convenience and safety, but $10 isn't a pocket breaker for most people...heck i probably drop more than that at Starbucks without a 2nd thought and i by no means am loaded with cash. At the end of the day, someone in the GM chain made it right but i doubt 99% of owners really think about it.

I fully understand your point and where your coming from... The zip lock bag owners manual cover nailed it head on. I had to buy one on ebay for mine.

And as I originally posted way back, it wasnt the amount that was the issue, it never was.. like you said, its $10.. it was more principle with me than anything.

Let me give you an example of a reverse of this. I just bought a Du-Ha underseat for my truck. Love it, but wasnt thrilled with the strap mount set up. It moved way to much and made an otherwise great product seem a bit shoddy. I asked the company if I had mis-installed it or if I had done something incorrectly. One of the owners himself called me and explained they have had some issues from customers saying the same thing and because of that, redesigned the mount and were sending me one of the redesigned set ups right away....

To me, that is how a company should handle a situation. With GM I asked where the guides were and after about 15 emails of deflection ect... Thats where it became more principle than cost.

And I agree on not everyone needs them, no different then the front license plate bracket... but those are given if you ask. There is no reason these couldnt be the same way. If you are going to have kids or shorter adults in the back of your truck, you should be able to get these... but again it is only $10... I just didnt like how it was handled from the first response, which then made it bigger than the $10 to me.

That is where I was coming from and why this thread was started.
