I thought I've seen it all. I was wrong.

no idea about the HOA but no officer is going to give you any trouble for driving a 1/2 ton truck on a parkway with commerical plates, i do it all the time. i even tow my 21 ft boat on a parkway with the commerical plates, the idea is so no big rigs are on the road.

I live in Massachusetts and we can choose passenger or commercial registration as well. Also, the town I live in is on the Rhode Island border, so much of the business I do is in RI. The dealer I have bought 9 trucks from is in RI, one hundred feet over the state line. Never ever ever once have I had to go to the DMV to register my trucks, in the 19 years I have been dealing with them, they always do it all for me. They also take care of the paperwork from the insurance company as well. We have mandatory insurance and in order to register your vehicle you must first have the insurance company stamp on it or the DMV won’t even look at it.

I would stop trying to negotiate anything with the dealer at this point and take this plan of action.

1.) Send the local news station an e-mail telling them of your experience, the bad dealings and customer service at the dealership you bought from. Where I live we have a local news station that thrives on consumer revenge for disgruntled customers. They will go right down to the business and stick a camera in the owners face and ask him why he is treating his customers like he is. I am pretty sure you could get some reporter to handle it.

Make sure you CC the e-mail yo are sending to the news station to the manager of the dealership and the owner as well, as a matter of fact, I would send a registered letter to the owner and manager of the email to the news station printed out.

2.) There are laws in place to protect the consumer, more especially in the automotive business. I have been buying my trucks from the same salesman for 19 years, and after I have decided on what I want, I still beat him like a rented mule until I feel I have gotten my money’s worth. The last 3 trucks I have bought I have received FREE step rails, Tonneau Cover, and Mud flaps. And to guarantee that they do not try and sneak in some kind of BullS**t charges to make up for it, only after I have the final price on a contract do i torture them for more to get me to sign. So your next move, and possibly your first is to call the Attorney General’s office in your state and the state the dealer operates in and find out what they can do for you. They should be able to make everything right for you no matter what. The fact that the dealer wants to charge you $5000.00 to cancel the deal and keep the truck is BULL, and just an extortion trick to get you to go away.

All I can tell you is there is NO WAY i would ever take this type of crap from a car dealer, especially considering how much money you just dropped on that truck. If this was me I would be fighting everything to make him keep the damn thing.

Like Rocky said, if it came right down to it, I would go down there and drive that mother right through the showroom window and land it on top of a brand new Stingray, because if I am going to do something crazy, it’s going to be headline news and worth it!!!!

Good Luck with this and I hope everything works out in your favor.

Weird. NH you always had to go register it on your own, never heard of the dealer doing it. Guess I'll find out how Michigan is next year most likely.

I bought my last truck in FL I never touched a bit of the paperwork after I signed the contract. About 60 days after I got home with it the tags showed up in the mail one day. So they can do it if they want to. :jester:

I think you guys in the great northeast are missing more important point. You need to start a petition with your state or local rep to get some of your crazy laws change. We are talking about a 1/2 ton truck, I don't care what kind of tags you put on it, they only can do so much. I guess there could be an argument if we were talking 3/4 ton and up, and it was a no brainer service truck. What do the people around there do that have to work for a living with their truck? Great example of government out of control, I know its for the good of the people where have I heard that before?

Just go register it yourself in your state. Don't you have to do this anyway? Or did your dealer try to register it in NY for you? Here in TX they have plates at the DMV they give you on the spot. I lost 1 in an accident and they gave me a new pair for $4 and 30 seconds of paperwork.

There's always small claims court. You can prove they mistakenly falsified the paperwork. It's their job to fix it and no judge would rule in their favor.

On the real though, that sucks about your deal with the dealer. Effin ass-holes, my dealer got me too. Truck was going for 33 and I got them down to 31 and they ended up selling me some polyshield crap for 2grand saying is necessary or the bank won't finance. Bs they just wanted to get their 33 for the truck.

This is your own fault for believing them.

If you buy from a dealer the plates have to be processed by the dealer. Private party however is another story

I lived in Rockland & Westchester counties & spent plenty of time on L.I. so I understand the issue with parkways. Its a pain trying to get around using solely roads for commercial traffic. I bought my truck from a dealer in NJ, and was asked me to sign the papers early (to get the sale in Dec. numbers). I had no problems doing that but after I signed it was like I didn't exist anymore. I had to call them twice to find out the delivery was going to be delayed two times. I guess its the way of dealers to call you all the time until they get the $$'s, so much for customer service after that...

If you've not resolved the situation one suggestion I would offer is to drive to the DMV in Riverhead to see if they could adjust the registration. When I bought my last vehicle (2006) I went to that DMV office specifically because it was near my girlfriend and of how crowded other DMV offices are. I got there when they opened on a Friday & I was one of two people in the office. The lady who assisted me was super nice & really helpful. I was in shock as it was the polar opposite of whet I'd experienced with the DMV near Garden City. If anything can be done via the DMV on your own they may be able to help you without you having to wait for 3 hours to speak with someone.

Hope you're able to get it resolved...
