The tires are fine for general driving, they just are not great for winter weather.

I'm driving to Daytona for the Coke zero race and then Tennessee 2 weeks later and I couldn't be happier with my new tires. I had the SRA's on mine and they shook but it was "tolerable". I dropped $980 on a set of Nittos and sold the SRAs for $450. Best $500 anyone can do for their trucks IMO.

For me the tires are critical for safety. I had the dealer swap out the GY's (gave me $125/tire credit) for a set of Michelin LTX M/S2. I have been using these tires for the last 15 years and love them. I pay more but find the quality and value I want.

Smooth, quiet, good lifespan and great in the snow.

Ive got a Loaded SLT currently being built, i ordered the 20" rims ane they come with the SRA'S you guys are scaring me. We have some pretty darn cold, snowy, icy and long winters. If these tires are that bad i will be getting rid of them before the white stuff comes. Thanks for the honesty. Wonder why they are even offered on a 2500HD in the first place.

I found these tires to preform differently, according to outside temperature and weather.

They did not leave a good impression on me, I now run toyo open country a/t extreme and they are a 10 ply tire and are recommend for a load/work truck. These are very good overall handling tires, and look good also.

I have taken them off my truck currently, and put my stock tires back on until they figure out why my truck is vibrating shaking regardless the tires on it.

Toyo makes a good tire so does nitto in my opinion.

It does seem funny that on the 18" rims that GM puts the Michelin LTX M/S2 rubber but puts the GY rubber on the 20" rims. Up here in Alberta Canada winters can be pretty harsh and long, so good quality AT's are a must.on a 7000lb + truck.

They don't put Michelin's stock. People are paying to upgrade to them. I have a Z71 with 18" rims and the stock tires are Goodyear Wrangler SR-A's.

My SRAs are history lol

Yes I know they are and I'm super jealous! I can't wait until I can afford to dump these Goodyears.

Side note: my truck is in the shop for some hail damage repairs and I have a 2014 Malibu as a loaner for the weak. Besides the shifting driver seat issue it has that I posted about in that thread, I'm also paying attention to the ride quality as I tend to feel the road in this car more than the Cruze loaner I had a few months back. The Malibu has Goodyear tires..............

I just noticed that NTB has zero interest for a year if you use their credit card....very temped to go buy 4 Nitto Crossteks and an alignment. As much as I hate my Good years, I may leave them on until they wear down more...or until I see a tire sale I cant pass up. Every once in a while NTB has a buy 3 get 1 free tire same...if that happened tomorrow I'd do it. I HATE these GY tires.

^im like you I'm driving on these garbage GY tires for a while until they wear more to save some money. Then I'll put some michelins on. I'm pretty convinced my tires are the culprit of my issues but I'm willing to tolerate them to save some money. This truck payment is already maxing out my budget and I bought it thinking I wouldn't have to put any money into it for a while since it's under warranty and i definitely shouldn't have to replace tires after 5000 miles.

Or take em off and at least pay for 1/2 the new tires... Might as well get something for them

I sold the goodyears on craigslist for $400. Best move I have made. Those tires suck in the snow.

I really liked the BFG All Terrains I had on my '02 Silverado. If I can, I'll probably put a set on my '14 when the time comes.

Besides that, any improvements on vibration/shake?

    • This is exactly the reason our EV has consumed so much of my driving. I don't want to fire up a cold diesel or gas engine just to drive 2 miles up to the store. It's arguably terrible for an engine. If I'm not driving at least 10 miles and don't need to do truck things, the truck stays parked.   Enter the EV. It's immediately heating or cooling the cabin as needed (heat pump). An engine doesn't need to warm up or be driven gently. I can tear off in it with ZERO guilt. Move the car 1/4 mile from store to store and not think "gee, I'm short-cycling a lukewarm engine".   It doesn't idle in a drive-through. Doesn't idle at stop lights. (OK, neither would the diesel, if I let stop-start have its way, but I don't).   Even moving it out of the garage to wash it... HA! It doesn't need to be started just to move 40 feet. I have cars that I will actually put in neutral and push (no start) in/out of the garage or shop if they absolutely HAVE to be moved. My nice Camaros.

    • Great video. I almost want to reserve one now.
    • I traced the atf cooling system in my 1500 and it comes out of the transmission, into the bar/plate liquid/liquid heat exchanger, as stated above.  Then it crosses over to the external thermostat/bypass and then  to the aux cooler in front of the main radiator.  Hence, on this routing, the PPE thermostat bypass eliminator is an $85 piece of bling that does nothing for reducing atf temps on this truck.  I think I'll temporarily clamp a needle nose vise grip on the coolant feed hose to the bar/plate cooler and see how much the atf temp drops.  With the use of ULV trans fluid, I'm not convinced running the trans cooler than OEM spec is going to be detrimental to the life of the transmission.    I found this interesting on the Dana/Long site stating that they make transmission cooling/heating bar plate heat exchangers.  I worked with Dana/Long on a few projects when I was at the gas powered fun factory. https://www.dana.co.jp/downloads/PTG/Long/Dana_TOC_SpecSht.pdf  Bar plate heat exchangers are just a stack of stamped parallel path fluid channels, assembled and vacuum furnace brazed to make the final assembly.  Want more cooling/heating, just stack more plates until you run out of package space.   Anyway, thanks for the info, much appreciated.
    • I have thought an EV might have some practical value in extending the life of the ICE members of ones fleet. Now....I'm convinced of it. I've been letting my better half access Raven (Mitsubishi Mirage) for her needs while Dizzy has been in the shop. Being the fuel freak I am and given the fact Raven is capable of over 60 mpg in clean air on a warm day I was taken back by the wife's ability to take a car that had used a half a tank of gas that to that point had returned a value of 57 mpg and return in with a decimating 51 mpg for that same tank in that same day in a 15 mile round trip of short hop errands and a stop in the drive through at Micky D's.  😱   Trust me on this. It would take the remainder of that tank driven on the highway to return that tank to just 54 mpg. This is not a Mitsubishi issue. This is an ICE issue that is magnified in vehicles capable of such high fuel economy values. On a percentage basis your 1500 does the same thing. Short hopping an ICE consumes a good deal more fuel and in doing so provides zero additional useable outputs. That entire volume of fuel is wasted in diluting the cylinder walls oil films, creating crankcase moisture and acid content and the resultant wear.    Enter the SLATE. All of that is avoided and the ICE's advantage in range and made useful at reduced wear for your ICE!   Kind'a cool.
