What is required for me to go from my current 2 wheel drive to be able to swap into 4 wheel

Why not install a true locker in the rear with some bigger gearing?

Converting a 2wd into a 4wd is a foolish idea. You not only will spend a lot of money, more than if you traded for a 4wd of same year, you will devalue the 2wd truck because the VIN permanently brands the truck as a 2wd.

The frames are different. It's far more hassle than its worth. Trade in this for a 4x4.

A locker and good tires will help you a lot. But converting 2wd to 4 on one of these newer pickups is impossible.

I might try the locker idea and just save a little cash and get a little bit older 4wd

I honestly don't know how this idea would even cross someone's mind, let alone think of it as realistic.

Because back in the day it was far easier than it is now with all the electronics that go into these trucks. I had a coworker that had an old 80s Chevy that finally gave up on him so he bought another 80s Chevy (2wd) and swapped in the 4wd from the old truck.

Bc my first truck was a 89 c10 and it was fairly cheap to swap iy
