Dealership employee rant.

can't believe what I just saw. At the dealer getting my truck scanned for a service 4wd light and was watching the girl move my truck. She gets in and starts it and I see her mashing on the parking brake. She looks over and A service writer comes over and opens the door and then he mashes on the parking brake trying to get it to release. Really? You work at the dealer and you don't know there is a latch? The girl is maybe 18 and the guy is in his 40's. He mashes a little more and then notices the latch. She just starts laughing like its funny. I was on my way into the service bay to show them when they finally got smart enough to figure it out.

 

After this i prob won't come here again. I just didn't have the time to get it to my normal dealer but will make sure I do next time.

Not really a big deal, parking brakes are designed to be stepped on. Unless she was hanging on that thing with a pry bar i wouldn't worry about damage. Everyone makes mistakes.

I wasn't worried about damage. It just baffled me that somebody who works at a dealer and is around a lot of GM vehicles a day doesn't know that a GM truck has a parking brake release handle. That's the first thing I look for when I get a car I'm not familiar with.

 

And the other thing that got me was her reaction when the service advisor came over (who did the same thing until he realized there was the release handle). It was that laugh like a "oh yea, ha ha. I forgot it did that" type of laugh and reaction.

 

I had the same reaction Chevyguy said. We trust these people with our vehicles and let them drive them around the lot and service garage in close quarters.

they are likely more used to the "Push to Release" Parking Brake Pedal; like what's on the K2 Trucks.

K2 trucks have a release latch.

 

But, I don't think it would make a difference whether I used that dealership one way or another, based on something like that. The main thing I'd scrutinize would be the work I took in for.

Some gmt900 have the push to release as well. Mine does. Simple mistake.

I just checked the 2014 Owner's Manual (how Thoughtful for Chevrolet to put them up for free on their website and go as far back as 2008!) and some DO have the Release Lever as you say, and some are the "Push to Release" style.

my K2 has no release latch, it is push to release.

We have old school Verizon phones, went to Verizon store because of an issue with no volume....the guy at the store kept tapping on the screen over the "Menu" like it was a Smart phone....

Not all GM trucks do. My 2008 has a release handle, my 2010 is push to release.

No matter what car or truck I take to the dealer for an oil change they always put sticker in the left side of the windshield, next oil change 3000 miles later. Really? I just times it by two. Even on my old trailblazer SS, it came with mobil one.

Strange that some GMT-900's have the latch and some are push-to-release. I wonder why that is or if it was something they changed mid-year at some point.

 

My dad's '07 Avalanche has the latch and any other GMT-900 I've been in had the latch as well. Could it depend on whether the truck has a disc/disc or disc/drum configuration?
