2014 Gmc Sierra 1500 1st service

My first 90 day service is a few weeks away & my dealer said they are not changing the break in oil until the scheduled 7500 miles its just an inspection .... 2 year maintenance is included & I always thought it was necessary to get the break in out out ??

My dealer said the same thing when I asked them to do mine @ 3000 miles. They did it anyway and said the service plan is 4 services and I could use them whenever I wanted to until they are all used.

My dealer stated the same as above. I have 4 oil changes in 2 years and I could use them when I needed. Heck I just turned 5800 miles in 9 and 1/2 months. My oil life monitor was at 45% when it was changed about 2 months ago. The original policy by GM was it had to be 20% or less before they paid for an oil change. However that has been changed IIRC.

What exactly is 90 day service or break in oil? This isn't the 50's anymore.

Yep, but people have been so brainwashed for so many years that they still believe in "break-in oil" and 3,000 mile oil changes.

the metal used on modern motors is so perfect and strong that it does not wear any manufacturing imperfections nor have any shavings of any kind ?Ialways rak 5k on my lexus & old sierra synthetic not 3k & know Its not the 50s but the motors are built by GM not Nasa....Some say that about modern firearms but I still clean & break mine in until I see proof otherwise

No need to change the oil unless you been in extreme conditions or the oil life monitor is below 30%.

 

There is no "break-in oil"

It's just good common sense to extract the original oil used for the first couple hours of engine use imo. If these engines had no need then there would be no need to place a magnet on the end of the drain plug. For 50 bucks it good cheap insurance on an engine that would cost around 5 grand or more to replace!

I change mine every 5000km (3000miles) regardless of what GM says. I am also a GM tech. I do not believe in this oil monitor system at all.

It's not the metal that is the issue, although clearances and tolerances have much improved over the last 50 years. It's that the oil is better, especially synthetics. It doesn't break down as easily as it used to and it wears longer. It's not a matter of trusting the oil monitor system, it's trusting every new car manufacturing engineers that are now saying that 7,500 mile oil changes are perfectly acceptable. But hey, keep changing it every 3,000 miles if you want for your "piece of mind" because oil (even synthetic) is an infinite resource. Right? Right?

That's just part of it the engines are more efficient, fuel injection, quick warm ups hotter running temps, hotter spark. I got 6,000 miles on my truck cant hardly see the oil on the stick yet. I got one for you, Ive seen studies stating if you change oil too often its worse because of the detergents in the oil. My trail blazer had mobil one the light came on at around 15K, I beat the sh^t out of it, at 130K I sold it still running good using no oil.

The dealer is just giving you lip service, find another one.
