2014 GM 1500 INTERMITTENT DRIVELINE VIBRATION

Hi, my name is Jeff and I have a 2014 Silverado 1500 2wd, 4dr short bed and I have been battling an intermittent driveline vibration since almost day one that has been getting progressively worse. I did an internet search awhile ago and found that were tons of people out there experiencing the same issue at about 60 mph and higher. ( but varies by the vehicle) Anyway, I joined this forum to spread the word that I found the issue.

These drive shafts are built with a sound dampener inside the tube that prevents noise from being amplified through the driveshaft.

sorry, I accidently entered the post before I was done. what I found happened to me is this sound resonator has been progressively braking apart and bouncing around inside the drive shaft. Every time I stop, then start driving again the pieces bounce around then at the right RPM catch, throwing off the balance of the drive shaft. The truck is at the dealer right now and they confirmed what I just told you and have ordered me a new shaft. hopefully the new one wont have the same problem.

I hope this helps others out there.

that seems like a crap! Not that your story is crap that the material in the driveline would just break apart. I had been wondering why my driveline looked like a giant baseball bat. Now I know its full of sound crap!

Please post this over at the "Shake and Vibration" thread. I'm sure there are a lot of people over there who would be very interested in this issue!

according to the driveline guy I've been dealing with, some drive line manufacturers us a cardboard tubing that has a seem cut down the side of it so that the tubing can be collapsed, shoved in the drive shaft and then will hopefully uncoil back to its original size to fit tight in the drive shaft, where as other manufacturers use a rubberized foam, which as you know with a sponge or any soft foam, always returns to its original shape. Based on the symptoms and the sound of the material bouncing around in the drive shaft as it was spun up on the balancer, the material used was most likely a card board like material for sound resonation in these shafts

I observed coming home from work this morning in cooler temps my truck rode like a cadillac at all speeds that were previously giving me shaking and vibrations (70-80mph). My tires are Michelins set to 32 psi cold (recommended on door tag). It was 60 degrees F this morning on my 30 mile all highway commute home. My trans temp was 170 degrees F. I also didn't experience any harsh downshifts or clunks on decel.

Something tells me that something in the driveline is out of spec or warps when it is hotter because when it is 80 degrees outside my truck doesn't ride this nice on the highway that's for sure.

Has anyone been able to notice these same results? Any ideas or input? My truck goes back to the dealer on Monday of next week.

You may be onto somethng here...a GM engineer has asked to replace my drive shaft with another "new design" one. I dont now whats new about it but hopefully it solves my shake problems. It's been on order for over a week now.
