Metal skid plates?

Recommended Posts

Let me start by saying that I don't consider myself an off roader. I do however require skid plates. I've had countless "glad i have skid plates" moments. For example: last year I was driving around in 2' of snow while hunting and got high centered on a hidden mound of dirt. It took a couple of hours of shoveling and towing to get unstuck. I'm scared when I look under my new silverado. I'm pretty sure the transfer case would be knocked off if I ended up in the same situation. I know you can get plastic z71 skid plates, but I have my doubts on their durability. Plastic works great on my quad, but on something that weighs almost 10x as much?

I've searched a few times, but cannot find any place that sells metal skid plates for these trucks. Has anyone seen them?

Skid to cover what? My 2012 has metal except the plastic that goes from the back of the bumper to the lower skid plate. I changed that out to metal.

This is referred to as a slash shield.

My bad. I didn't realize this was on a 2014. I have a 2012 hd. Maybe that is how gm saved weight on the old truck. Plastic skid plates.

i have a z71 the only metal skid plate is the one that "protects" the transfer case and it is about as thick as a sheet of paper. it might take the brunt of the force the first time it take a hit but it will need replacing afterwards. I've been wanting someone to come out with some replacement skid plates for the front of the truck and the transfer case and something to protect the trans pan.

Subscribed also.

While my truck has been on a life twice now I didn't pay attention to skid plates on my '14 Z71. I would assume someone could take original plastic skids and be able to manufacture something out of a Strong metal.

Anyone have 2014 skid plate pics?

Won't be tonight, and pics will suck as I don't have access to a lift but I can take some

Shots tomorrow from driveway if that will help you brother. I have a '14 Silverado LTZ Z71 4x4

Took some form dealer.

If I remember right from the last time I was under my truck, there is some metal behind that plastic (referring to the skid plate that starts in front of the engine). Will have to go check.

I am also interested in metal skid plates. i already snapped the one protecting my gas tank in half somehow and i haven't even done anything too hardcore yet. Haven't gone to the dealer to get it replaced yet but i am going to be a pain in their asses since its clear that the plastic isn't enough to protect the underside of my truck

So I compaired to my new z71 and it does have 1 additional metal plate that the normal 4x4 doesn't under the transfer... maybe # 15 in diagram?? If so, 2wd part# is different.
