How much rust is TOO much ??

Well I am going to look at a truck that's a pretty far distance from me and the guy sent me several pictures. The body looks great, no rust coming through or even showing, but underneath is rusted. Looks like surface only but it really is tough for me to tell. Its been a long time since I purchased a used vehicle. Could just be Normal for a 13 year old truck.

Can someone give me some insight ? Thanks

Its a 2001

Thanks again

Matt

I would hate to work on that truck. You would have to heat and spray penetrating oil to do anything. I see that the brake lines have been changed.

That looks excessive to me. Just my opinion. My 04 isn't anywhere near that rusted, and it has 185k on it. I mean nowhere in that ballpark. That seems pretty bad. Everything under there, including shocks, is rusted. Seriously, when have you guy seen modern shocks that were that rusted?

Idk I had a 2001 1500 that was nowhere near as rusted and I live in the salt belt of PA.. I personally would move on. As soon as a mechanic has to work on anything under there it will be a nightmare.

I'd say normal? as long as its solid and not rotted, no holes, etc.

It's the underside of an old truck... I usually paint mine in the spring with rustoleum just to hide it a bit lol

If the truck was going for real cheap, I'd pick it up and drive it until it dies. However as a daily driver, I think you'll be glad you passed.
