Intermittent parking sensors

My front parking sensors started acting up over the weekend. The worst part is the quit working unbeknownst to me while i was parking my truck in a crowded parking lot at the outlet mall here. There was no warning on the DIC (i checked the system is set to buzz seat in MyLink)like when they freeze up. So low and behold i end up love tapping an old suburban with a receiver hitch on its front. Now i have a nice crease and a deep gouge on the chrome bumper. The crease can probably be fixed PDR, but the gouge is now exposes metal which will start to rust. It's at the dealer as i type this for the transmission recall, the moving seat issue (which i'm sure won't get fixed) and to have the parking sensors checked out.

I'm really contemplating if i should complain to the Service Advisor for them to cover my bumper since the system didn't work while under warranty, but i doubt they will see that as GM's problem....ughhhhh I like most here is anal about my truck, chrome really doesn't hide dents and gouges well.....:(

Should i push the issue with the dealer to cover the repair of the bumper?

It won't hurt to bring it up, you might get lucky. I'd be surprised if you got anywhere with it though.

Hate to say it, but all these fancy park assist sensors and rear view cameras don't take place of your eyes and mirrors. They should be used as an aide, not as a crutch.

My parking sensors in the front have a mind of their own. Also utterly useless once you drive in rain, snow, dust or mud.

Started having some trouble with my parking sensors the last day or so. They tell me theres something right in front of me when there isn't and every now and then the rear ones say they're blocked too.

It's -15C here for awhile and I just washed my truck. Wondering if some water just got in the sensor and froze, would be nice if I had a heated garage to thaw it out.

Had the same problem in my 2010, backed into my buddies 2014 Dodge ram with a full plastic front bumped. Spidered his paint and after buying him a case of beer and a new bumper, I complained to the dealer. They pointed out that it is a supplemental driving aid, so hope you have more luck than me.

had issues with a car a few years ago that had parking sensors, after that i decided i never want them.

when they go bad you have to replace them or deal with a constant buzzig everytime you throw it in reverse. high pressure car washes are known to beak them so watch those pressure washers around them.

i have the rear view camera but i only use it when im inching back, really just dont trust it to line me up properly in a spot even thought it probably will.

GM should cover the bumper if you push it and if you are under warranty. you may have to go above the dealerships head though.

I don't really see why I should have to push it to get them fixed if they don't work properly.

So you guys think that GM should be held responsible when you collide with the oncoming traffic because the lane departure warning failed?

Interesting.

I am with J Ten ner, it is an aide that does not correct the driver not paying attention. It is your responsibility to make sure you pull into the spot far enough, not the trucks. I doubt GM will do a thing as it was a driver error that caused the damage.

if the sensors have ice on them or snow they wont work since they use radar signals to detect the other objects.

Ya I'm not asking them to pay for any damage if I hit something, just to fix the sensors if they don't work properly. As far as I can see there is not any ice or snow on them on the outside but some may have worked its way into them during the car wash. Its supose to warm up to +5C here this weekend so maybe they'll work better after that.

If they have any water on them that is frozen, even a small layer it will cause the system to turn them off.

Ridiculous response for the post on hand. No one is saying the parking assist should stop a high speed colision....two way diffent scenarious between parking a truck and the system aiding a driver with something below the hoodline, and that which can be seen clearly out the winshield such as oncoming traffic.Your respones is moronic at best.Smh.

The parking assist system is supposed to assist the driver while parking your vehicle and warn you of the things you may not see whether due to the massive hood or the minimal view out the rear, ie like a low level below the hood pole, or a bike laid over or an extended item like a parking stantion. Yes, the driver is ultimately responsible, no one is claiming otherwise, but it is called "Parking Assist" if it doesnt do that function, then what is the purpose of the system? Others have said an aide, in my situation, it didn't do that...it should of went off when it sensed what I couldnt see...a low level extendsion from the front bumper...nothing more nothing less.

As said ...

overall they help

sometimes not accurite ... dirty / wet / ice ... can be annoying - hardly worth complaining about

if your depending on them - good luck with your driving skills

never had the front ones ... kinda redundant right in front of yor face/bumper - again good luck with your driving skills

In my imagination I can really see you starring out the front window and waiting for the park assist to do his job.

Your eyes getting bigger and bigger 'til you hear and feel the contact to the car IN FRONT OF YOU.......loooooooooool.

I really hope that you'll never come close to my truck.
