Line-X Install Question

Has anyone that's had Line-X installed done anything special with the tailgate access panel. All the pictures I've seen of the Line-X installed on the tailgate has looked like they've all sprayed right over up the access panel making it pretty much permanent at that point. Some appear to have had the screws removed prior to spraying it in and them re-installing the screws, but that wouldn't do much if you need to get the access panel off.

I'm getting mine sprayed in this week and was wondering if I should have them pull the panel off and spray it separately then just re-install everything or if that would result in some fitment problems.

?

I have mine sprayed and had to have my latch replaced under warranty and there were no issues. I would assume they know what they are doing and they will remove the bolts before spraying

I would think that too, but I know I've seen several install pictures where the heads of the screws are clearly covered. That led me to think they probably sprayed over the panel and everything and you'd need to cut around the edge of the panel to free it up if you ever needed to service the latch. Not a real fun thing to have to do and would look like crap afterwards. Good to know that may not be the norm. Need to make sure my installer isn't one of the oddballs.

Are you talking about the panel for the camera harness? Mine is still completely accessible. As are the bolts for the handle.

I have never seen a spray in Berliner with the bolts covered. Maybe it was a DIY and they didn't know what they were doing?

The Ranger my brother bought new in 2002 had Rhino sprayed in (his only option as Line-X didn't have any locations in our area back then) and they sprayed right over all the bed bolts. Thank god his fuel pump never died cause it'd be a pain to cut the liner off those bolts to remove them.

My Line-X dealer removed the screws and panel, sprayed the panel separately, then reinstalled the panel after. The panel is still removable, with nothing on the screws.

I have more pics in my gallery, if you want to take a look.

Good info. I'll just grill the installer to make sure.

I had the rocker panels sprayed on my last truck. Worked like a champ and gave it a nice two-tone look.

They are supposed to take the panel off to spray. Make sure your bolts aren't stripped after complete.

If you look close they take the panel off and raise it above the mounting surface before spraying, then button it all back up when finished. Everything is still accessible, LineX in my area do top notch work.

One thing you will have to decide, is whether you want your tie downs installed or sprayed over the caps. I had them spray over the caps, as they can be removed later if you wish. Spraying over them gives a much cleaner look. You can check out other pics in my gallery that will show the caps.

My tailgate rear panel was taken off during the bed spray and when they sprayed it they did not spray the screws.

I haven't seen it on here but I've seen a couple Raptor guys get the Raptor logo stenciled and sprayed at the front of the box against the cab. Anyone do that with the gmc or Chevy logo?

I've seen it both ways, but a reputable shop who is proud of their work will remove the panel & screws prior to spraying. I would ask, and insist that they do the same.
