Cleared My Headlights

I liked the look of my diamond white with the reflectors so I was nervous at first but so glad I did it

Pretty much! one end is kind of clipped on, you just push and it pops off and the other is held there by GM melting a little plastic to hold it. I just popped the plastic blob off with a screw driver and then it fell off. So far so good with no condensation either. Its rained all day and I also washed my truck tonight and all is good!

I pretty much understand your explanation on how to crack into the headlight fixtures. Now how about a step-by-step on how to remove the headlights for idiots like me ?

OKAY - I can get the grill out now.....I guess the headlights come out easily after you take the grill out ?

There is 4 10mm bolts. They're all very obvious. The one bolt is on the side where your bumper cover covers up..you will need to use a wrench since you cant get a socket in there. once they're out the bolt that bolts to the top of your fender you need to use a screwdriver to pop it out of the clip and then they will come right out. The lights have one single plug.

After you remove the chrome trim and re-bake your lights you really have to dig deep to get to the lens..just keep moving around the light digging deeper..once you get the lens to pop up grab it with your hands and start pulling and it will slowly all come apart

It's a law on the federal register in the U.S.. State laws don't usually get into this area. Im on my phone now. But google federal vehicle standards. You'll find all the stuff from seatbelts to lights.

Alright, I guess for you that haven't dealt with federal laws, it's a tough thing to find. But everyone should be somewhat familiar with how our federal laws are structured, IMO. I happen to work in the regulatory area of aviation, which drove me to get very familiar with federal laws.

Here's a link to the federal laws of the land that govern everything from the President to Congress. You'll find Title 49 for Transportation. Under 49 it provides for authority to make laws for Transportation. DOT created laws for motor vehicles which you'll find in the links below this one.

http://uscode.house.gov/browse.xhtml;jsessionid=03950BC477A1FB8AAD93212E31E61495

Here's a link to the whole vehicle safety standards list (only). (Title 49, section 571)

http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/fmvss/

This link is to the specific regulation (law) for lights and reflectors.(Title 49, section 571.108)

http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CFR-2004-title49-vol5/xml/CFR-2004-title49-vol5-sec571-108.xml

My educated guess is that Texas doesn't require side reflectors because it's covered under federal law. I believe it's highly unlikely that Texas wrote a law to override the federal law requiring side reflectors. But, I could be wrong.

Thanks. I'll have to read through that. Texas state law only specifies rear red reflectors and allows for bulbs that are white, amber, or a color in between for front signals. I've not had any problems getting inspected.

Fwiw I cut mine open with a Dremel. Much faster and safer IMO. Many people have melted their lights.

Yes, yes they have.

Dremel sounds safer, what do you just buzz around the seam with a spinning round abrasive cutting blade ?

There are actually a couple people on here that have done it with GMC and I've seen a youtube video showing how to dremel

I have read a lot of places people melting NNBS lights and say the only way to get them open is using a dremel but I did a set of NNBS sierra lights Saturday and NNBS Silverado lights Sunday with 0 issues. I may try my next set with a dremel and see if I can do them cleaner than baking

I might do a set this weekend. If I do I will let you know how they go

Let me know how hard it is to pop the orange out.

I dont like the dremel idea. It might be easier on truck head lights with straight lines but I baked my 99 z28 head lights and painted the inside it was easy. I wouldnt go over 200* or 20 min. In fact I would check them at 15min

Maybe i missed it, but did you paint your bezel black and remove your reflector? Or what did you do inside the light? I'm thinking about clearing mine and painting the bezel black.

    • Regular cab has only 2 speakers.  One in each door.  No amp.  Radio drives the speakers.
    • Thanks for response. Leak was right under drivers seat or thereabout.   Had checked by other mechanics and have read other information.   The solution can be a tad complicated and replacing multiple parts And with some.  The issue was still the same.   The brakes do work.   Just that the pedal is softer and goes further down.  But the brakes do work.
    • Breaking News!    I'm going to tell you that I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I told  you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm about to tell you on the other side of the break.  Then we're going to break. Then I'm not going to tell you what I told you I was going to tell you.  But I'll tell you something else that is Breaking News just coming to the desk that everyone reported on yesterday.  Then I'll tease a human interest telling I'll get to on the other side of a larger break. Then I'll tell you one item in 20 seconds and go back to an even longer break. Longest break of the night.  Then I'll tell you a fluff piece that takes 10 seconds and sign off into a three minute break while you wait for the next 30 minutes of rinse and repeat on the local news.    In al you'll get about 12 minutes of something, 5 minutes of which is worth hearing in a 30 minute show and 18 minutes of advertising at a sound level twice as loud as the news.    Of course you can switch to cable news and hear 12 different people tell the same four stories in much the same format as the Network News for 20 hours of which the majority will be advertising.  And four hours of late night Specials about things you wonder why you stayed up to listen to. Half of which will be repeats.....   OR you can go for a drive
    • Did you ever figure this out? My 2022 Trail Boss, and now my 2026 LT did this from time to time.  I believe it was more connected to Android Auto and my phone being the cause. Maybe try going for a drive, sans cell phone.... and see if it happens?
    • I have a 2026 Silverado LT, the non bose as well.  Upgrading the door speakers is pretty straightforward. You could honestly go to walmart, or Auto Zone/ O Reilly and get a set of 6x9s for the front, and 6.5s for the rear. You do also have to get some adapters for each, but they are like $10 a pair on Amazon. Then some plug and play harnesses that are about $10 a pair on Amazon as well.  And I would also suggest a 10 pack of the Amazon Basics sound deadening. Slap that all around the speakers and on the open metal of the inside of the door. And your golden.   I am currently doing this with my Silverado. Although I am having a bit of trouble because I am snooby I guess and bought some Alpine S2 S69c's which are 2 way components and I am having to wire from the door up to the dash....  Having never installed speakers before, its taking me just a bit to get everything correct. But if you dont buy expensive component speakers, and just some $40-$50 door speakers. You will DRASTICALLY improve the sound over these stock paper cone junk speakers. I thought my Silverado had an issue with the radio/ sound for a while.  Come to find out.  The stock speakers are just THAT SH*TTY   I cannot wait to have some decent sound in the truck   What did you end up doing?
