When I called Wilwood, the sales tech said that they were replacing their old line of W6A calipers that have external crossover hydraulic lines, with new "Aerolight" calipers (Aero6 for my applic) that have internal crossover. They hadn't offered that to the catalog ordering yet for my application, but the guy checked and said they were going to do it eventually and I could get them now. It cost me more to order directly (no discount) but I got the latest calipers.

Pretty sweet brother!!! Also interested in cost if you don't mind sharing.

I just got the 14.25" fronts. Full retail from the manufacturer. You can save a couple hundred buying from Summit or other sellers. But they won't have the new calipers in any stocked kits.

What size wheels will these sit behind?

Chris,

I'm using the factory 18" wheels. I gave some thought to getting the 16" brake kit and I spoke with the tech at Wilwood. He thought the 16" kit was overkill. It would have required 20" wheels. So I opted for the 14.25" kit. Same piston area as the 16" kit.

Im going to either 17 or 18" wheels. If i go with q7 im stuck with what i have. I know i have room to grow with 18, but i wasnt sure how much

I know people mod things all the time, to suit their taste. Did you find your brakes inadequate for your type of driving? Or are you hauling/towing a lot of weight where you feel these are a necessity?

I just got back from a trip through the Rockies, and I did not find my brakes inadequate at any time during the trip. I was not trailering anything or hauling much, so there were no surprises. The engine breaking did come into play on some of the steeper grades, and by clicking into the tow/haul mode, even more so.

Just curious?

Curious to see your feedback on these. Mine needs help with the heavy 35's, It is only worse while towing. Actually even a little scary at times.

I have 33x12.50 tires on my truck. I could feel a difference in the braking. The pedal pressure was bothering me. Then I had a close call. I was on the freeway, in the right lane for an exit. The traffic was heavy but going fast. The long string of cars in the right lane suddenly came to a stop. I jammed on the brakes, they didn't lock up, but it seemed like I was pushing damn hard and the truck wasn't going to stop. I swerved to the right on the shoulder and missed the car, stopping one car length past his rear bumper. I decided then that I was going to do something to enhance the braking.

Some good high performance pads would probably help a bunch, since the factory pads are for long wear and low dust. They will be much dirtier though.

My theory is that it isn't so much the weight of the wheel/tires as it is the increased radius, which gives up mechanical advantage when the radius increases. Just the opposite of increasing brake disk diameter.

If you end up buying brakes, I'd go with the 16", since you have 20" wheels and those big 35s. Again, I think increased radius (diameter) makes a big difference in braking power, whether it's the disk or the tire diameter. But call the Wilwood techs.

I had planned on putting them on this morning, but I have to go to work. Airplanes have to fly.
