I forgot to mention, I returned on I-90. It turns into a toll road in Illinois, cuts through Chicago/Gary In area. This was a dumb-ass mistake I will never make again. I'll cut down to I-80 well before getting anywhere near Chicago.

To get to the point, there were several lanes of traffic moving quite fast, and then grid-lock. Everything came to a screeching halt, and then it was bumper-to-bumper for what seemed like forever. Things would speed up again, and then come to a screeching halt again, but this dumb-ass country boy wasn't playing that game. I would leave a good stopping distance between me and the vehicle in front, only to hope the jack-ass behind me would do the same, but those damned FIB's would just pile into the gaps. NEVER AGAIN!

That part of the trip was more white knuckle driving than taking the scenic route East of Yellowstone at night, in a thunder and lightning storm, raining cats and dogs, navigating switchbacks. At least I could get a glimpse of the next switch-back every time a lightning bolt struck, which was OFTEN. Cody, WY couldn't get there fast enough. Would like to do it again in the day time, because I'll bet it was pretty damned impressive country. It would have been daylight, hadn't the park (Yellowstone) had shut down 2 roads in the park for repairs. So instead of driving in the South gate, and driving 17 miles to Old Faithfull, I had to drive all the way through the entire park to get there, and then all the way back to the East side. After waiting until just before dark in a thunder storm for the ol girl to erupt. But who drives to Yellowstone, not to see Old Faithful? I know, TMI, but needed to explain my insanity.

At least my brakes didn't fail me in either situation, but I wouldn't have been comfortable towing a trailer with any weight to it either.

I am just running factory 18's and 265/65/18 tires, so I don't have the rotational momentum to stop like you guys with the larger wheels and/ or tires. I think I am going to keep it that way this time.

Now tell us, is that a true story about stopping on the freeway, or the one you told the wife to get her on board with your new brakes? LOL J/K

Let us know how they work for you.

My theory is that it isn't so much the weight of the wheel/tires as it is the increased radius, which gives up mechanical advantage when the radius increases. Just the opposite of increasing brake disk diameter.

If you end up buying brakes, I'd go with the 16", since you have 20" wheels and those big 35s. Again, I think increased radius (diameter) makes a big difference in braking power, whether it's the disk or the tire diameter. But call the Wilwood techs.

This is definitely true. Most people assume you lose braking power because the big tires are heavy. But really the diameter itself is what gets you. Stopping a rotating wheel takes way less power than 5000 pound pickup. We have ABS for that reason, lol.

I think it's an awesome upgrade. Most people overlook it.

You can verify this sometime by jacking the truck rear wheels and running them up to highway speed and putting on the brakes. It takes very little pedal pressure to stop them instantly, regardless of tire size.

If you compare torque, you're looking at about a 5% increase in what the tires put on the brakes, going from 31.5" to 33". May not seem like much, unless that 5% would have kept you from running into something, lol. Also have to remember that the wider tires should have more grip though, so as you know it's harder to lock them up.

I was doing the install yesterday and found out something was wrong. The studs on the caliper brackets were too long. They stick out about.700" past the nut. They are so long that the nut bottoms on the unthreaded area.

Well that sucks!

Obviously their updated calipers are a bit different in the hardware requirement.

I think it was an error regardless of caliper. These studs will hit the wheel.

Welcome to Chicago. At least you didn't get shot.

i thought this was cool until i priced them. no way i'd upgrade factory breaks for 2k front and 2k rear lol.

Yes, pricey as a couple cat backs for just the fronts. I thought about it for a while. Everybody has a budget. Mine won't sweat over these brakes.

The proper/IRS term is street pharmacists! Nice upgrade though. My pops always said you have to be able to stop good before you can go faster. Next mod supercharger? Lol
