Like others have said... The GM front ends especially LML's are very reliable front ends... To actually think there is much of a different reliability wise dosent make much sense to me.. Would be throwing money away for do an SAS. Even if you did happen to have to replace a balljoint at 130k... Who cares. IMO

Ok bud. You want a solid front axle. The GM IFS setups have been around forever. They are just as reliable. Swapping isn't feasible. Also, GM has a boxed frame, which you say you don't like. Go buy a Ford then. But do it soon, cause I'd bet they'll switch to a boxed frame soon.

Honestly, for what it sounds like you want, a Ram Power Wagon would be the perfect truck for you.

I thought Ford already used boxed frames. At least for the 1/2 tons.

-im not getting into that frame argument on here........ i will say when big rigs go square tube then ill think about it, not till

-Ford and Dodge use D60 front axle there is no such thing as a front D80. Dodge and Ford use the D80 rear axle in their duallys

Actually there is a D80F, just not in a configuration we could use...

Frames are frames...I personally like the improvements the tube frame provides.

It sounds like you already made your mind up...good luck with your purchase.

FYI - Dodge hasn't used the D60F in over ten years...

I know there are companies that offer this but has anybody on here done this personally? Im looking at selling my 2004 F350 and buying a new 1ton...... i looked at the new F350 and from a Ford guy im not into the circus looking front ends. Looked at the new GMC trucks and there are SO nice! Only problem i will not buy a IFS truck, i hunt fish off road etc and im not going to be buying IFS parts ever year to keep it together this is the reason for the solid axle swap. Ive never seen one of these in person but they are all over the internet and i have passed some on the highway before, just wanting personal expirence with this setup?

2011 and newer are 100% different animals for front suspension over the 2001-2010 trucks. Front axle weight ratings are as high as 6000lbs (diesel with plow prep). Highest plow prep on the old frame was 4800lbs front axle rating. The componets dwarf the older GM trucks big time. And the frame on the 2011 and newer is super stout.

If I owned LML first thing I would do is cp3 conversion!!

Once the warranty was up of course

Yeah that's the plan.. Still hesitant about voiding the warranty.. Already been in for warranty work with 15k on it

I wouldn't touch one till I owned it a couple years, just to be sure...

Yeah that's what I'm saying.. Idk how long I can last with this stock tune the throttle lag is so bad merging on the highway is sometimes dangerous haha

Maybe you're still gettin used to a diesel? Gotta play with the throttle merging to keep it in boost kinda...that's what I do. Any diesel, even tuned ones will have lag time when you just stomp on it from a dead spool

Tuning it will deff wake it up tho, mine spools lightning fast...without building any boost at all if you just stomp on it at the line it will lite them 35's for couple hundred feet or about 60 mph it will start to hook ahaha

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
