Opps ! OnStar Mistake,

Well, OnStar did report an accident.

But missed the location . . . a tad !

 

 

 

“Campbell police Lt. Gary Berg said that around 2 p.m. Monday, the OnStar security system in the woman's car notified the Police Department that it had been in a rollover accident, but reported the location as at Camden Avenue and state Highway 17 in San Jose, Berg said.

 

 

Campbell police searched streets in the area, the CHP looked on nearby highways for two hours and the woman's car horn was activated through OnStar but they could not find it.”

at least OnStar Reported the accident; if she were in a car not equipped with it, she would very likely be still in that ravine, and very likely dead.

Not being from there how far off were they? I know in a rural area sometimes your location is off a few miles. Not to bad mouth OnStar or the people who were looking for her.

measuring from the first point when OnStar First reported the rollover which was in San Jose, CA, (which is Right in the Middle of SILICON VALLEY, with more Tech Companies per Square Mile than any other place on the planet.) to the road that the Cruze went off of, is 13 MILES as the crow flies. in my book, that is WAAAAAAAY OFF. and to add Insult to Injury, the woman was found using her iPhone and iPad using the "Find My iPhone" app, which was LITERALLY Developed just down the road in Cupertino, CA. I'm Suprised OnStar could even get a GPS Signal at all, since the Cruze landed on its roof, effectively crushing the OnStar Antenna.

OnStar systems are pretty robust but I'm guessing at that point the GPS was inoperative as crushed or not, GPS is a line of sight signal so they were likely using cell towers to triangulate her position. Unless you're in a major downtown area where there are likely tons of towers, triangulation isn't all that accurate. Not much they can do about that.
