2015 Navigation Map Update Available

Apple Maps in iOS 7 was blamed for someone driving into a river. That was "current". Whether your GPS information is as up-to-date as possible or not is irrelevant. You have to actually look at your surrounding and follow signs along the roadside.

In over a decade of using in-car navigation, I have come up against countless times when it wanted me to take a road that wasn't there, follow a turn that was blocked in terms of access, or tried sending me the wrong way on a one way street. You can't be a sheeple and blindly follow the GPS wherever it wants to send you... You have to use your own brain along with it.

To get it to stop doing that, you have to turn off the sound in the navigation system. I got annoyed by being told that a toll booth approached. Took me forever to figure out that the nav was telling me that, even though I wasn't using the navigation at the time.

Just got off the phone with the folks at GM Nav Disc. They said they have never heard of this issue, but confirmed that it sounds like "someone at HERE (company that provides the updates) turned on some new notifications". These include "approaching divided highway, approaching frontage road, approaching toll booth, approaching ferry landing, and more that I've heard bout.

You are exactly right...he said to turn off voice prompts unless actually using voice for a route.

I told him that it would have been nice if they told us these were being turned on since they send the update on a flash drive in a package with other instructions. I also complained that these "helpful notifications" are so loud that it almost caused me to have an accident! He is going to report it...and so it goes....

so is there any update for the 2014 navi systems? whats the update # to give the dealer?

Here is the link: http://gmnavdisc.navigation.com/home/en_US/GMNA/USD?mkwid=sHUB8XniR_dc&pcrid=69229551903&pkw=gm%20navigation%20disc&pmt=e&sq=SRC=Google_ADID=69229551903_KW=gm%20navigation%20disc_MT=e_DIST=g_ADPOS=1t1_PLACEMENT=_DEVICE=c&gclid=Cj0KEQjw6OOoBRDP9uG4oqzUv7kBEiQA0sRYBAyLHmOMFFYAPi-9XF9Vfna6BHvi0LepYlC_gMhRyIIaAhqn8P8HAQ

You follow the instructions and they send you the appropriate update. Current update for 2014 *Silverado and *Sierra is 23496379. My dealer wouldn't have anything to do with it...I ordered it online...but that's another story...

Chevrolet Silverado 2014* (*Vehicles with MyLink systems only)

Is it really near a Ferry? At least my issue is near a divided highway. And yes, it is very loud. So much that it startles everyone in the truck!

It is next to a ferry, about two blocks away when I get the alert. My train station is right next to the ferry dock. At least the gps is accurate. It wakes me up every morning, better than coffee with how loud it is!

Well, at least it's accurate. The Infotainment folks told me to turn off the voice unless I was actually using it for a route.

I agree that the Nav software, not just data, sucks. Has any company offered a replacement software suite and operating system that works better? I have a 2014 Sierra SLT and cannot get music on a thumbdrive to play more than a few seconds. Then it stops and sometimes the operating system in the head crashes and reboots, also wiping out all Nav info like contacts, etc. This same thumbdrive worked fine on a 2011 Sonata with the ability to move easily between folders at any depth. The GM system belongs on a Kia, except that I believe the Kia system actually works and works well.

The NAV is what it is...everyone has their opinions, preferences or favs. what i do like so far is that I or my passenger can use while the vehicle is in motion. Just checked out the website....

Welcome to the GM Navigation Center

At this time, the map you are currently using is the latest version available today.

Please check back to see if a Map Update becomes available. Keeping your GM vehicle's navigation system up to date helps save you time, while providing added convenience and peace of mind. Each year, the navigation map database is updated with new addresses, streets, sub-divisions and other roadway changes. In addition, thousands of key Points of Interest such as restaurants, stores, hotels and banks just to name a few, are added, changed or deleted.

The Nav software on the 2011 Sonata was significantly better than this. One major failing is that only one turn is shown at a time. When there is another turn within 500 feet of the first one at highway speeds you can find yourself on the wrong side of three or four lanes. This happened to me in Tampa recently. I have had half a dozen GPS's and this is the worst software of them all in terms of useability and information content and ability to modify. I can't find a way to display speed limits and cams. Has anyone else done this? Or does it require Onstar subscriptions? The truck itself is a great performer, so its particularly annoying that the Nav software implementation is so botched.
