Rear ended

Well the unthinkable happened. I was rear ended on my way to work. Huge line of traffic at a red light and I was several cars back. Boom right in the rear end. Truck took it like one would think with a dodge stratus banging you at 35 mph. Here's my question is there anything I should look out for? The floor of my bed is now arched and the gap between the bed and cab is wider at the top. I can see where my hitch bolts to the frame and it's crumpled up there. I'm concerned as we are in a rural area and the lady had progressive ins but there are no local adjusters. Anyway here's a pic for now. Thinking it may be a good time to go with a painted bumper????

wannabebad - take the truck to a shop to ensure the chassis/frame is still true

^ x1000 A low speed crash like that can still do major damage, even to a rigid vehicle like a truck. Make sure someone goes over the entire thing. Re-tighten everything close to impact like frame/bed bolts and make sure theyre still to spec.

I do have Progressive and they have it where even after the adjuster quotes you, if anything else is found to be damaged that's not in the quote then Progressive will still take care of it. I don't think you have anything to worry about other than frame damage or maybe them totalling your truck. But, you won't have to worry about them missing something, the shop will see if anything else is damaged and Progressive will take care of it. I don't really think the frame itself got damaged, just the sheetmetal since the beds are so thin now, but then again you never know.

I'll try and take a pic of the bed floor and frame tomorrow. I've seen damaged trucks before but this is so odd looking. Tailgate works perfectly but the bed floor is bowed and the bed rails have a bit of an arc to them.

more than likely they will replace your whole bed if the bed is tweaked as bad as you are describing it. that will be expensive but unless you have major frame damage I doubt it will come close to being totaled. I would feel much better getting a whole new bed then having a bed fixed. post some pics though b/c your first post does not have any pics. GL with the fix.

Sorry to hear about your truck. Hopefully the repairs will go smoothly and quickly for you. I've had a few accidents over the years, the last one was with my current truck and it was all squared away, accident to picking up the truck, in a week. Just make sure that whoever does the repairs are using OEM parts only.

$7800??? Wow! Vehicle repair prices are insane these days. I know, vehicles are meant to crumple for safety but dang. Years ago I was rear ended when my truck was less than a year old. Total repairs...$1100, new rear bumper and brackets on the right side. Dude was going about 30mph and slid into me while I was stopped. His car was mangled.

Sorry to hear that man. I had 3 accidents in my 2007 (none of them my fault) but the body shop did amazing work making the think look like new. Your best bet is to make sure you're dealing with a reputable body shop because they will check everything thoroughly such as any tweaking of the frame. You want a good shop that knows how to look for the things that aren't easily apparent to the naked eye. Also look into getting reimbursed for lost value of the truck due to the accident. This could be a few thousand extra bucks in your pocket. Best of luck to you man.

working on diminished value on mine right now, they will also pay out loss of value if you opt out of a rental car....I didn't need one since I have a extra ride..comes out to 35 bucks a day...which adds up
