thanks for the reply not sure if it was my wording in post or you just read it wrong ,I have no heat at startup when its cold!! AND heated seats don't get warm !! sorry if I seem pissed I am at whits end with my $50,000 truck

There has to be something wrong with these trucks.. I have a diesel and I just cold remote started it in 13 degree weather this weekend and it was warm in less then 10mins

RVJ the heat will not get hot while in remote start mode, it only gets luke warm. Same for the seats where on the previous trucks the seats got fully hot and the heat was on full hot while under remote start mode.

Right, the seats just get warm when remote start is used. I wasn't saying the heater got real hot when the remote start was used, I meant while operating it driving down the road. It gets almost too hot. I don't really let it run very long when remote starting it, I usually do the remote start to get the oil circulating and get the engine partially warmed up as I only have about 1 block before I'm on the highway and I won't work a cold engine that hard right off the bat.

I was just going to suggest a winter front, with a large open grille to allow cold air to get in the engine is not going to warm up quickly.

Was about 5 degrees here this morning and remote started the truck and was nice and warm by the time I got out to it 5 minutes later.

Though I know 5 degrees is a heat wave to some of you up north which Imo is the major part of the problem.

So, I guess the question is "where is here"? Would that be 5F or 5C?

This morning it was -11C when I started the truck and let it run for almost ten minutes before getting into it. The temp gauge was still pegged at the lower limit when I left the yard and I drove over 20 km to the highway and it still wasn't up to its normal operating temperature. About 5 km down the highway it finally got there. Once there, it maintains the normal temperature well. As someone else suggested, I'm beginning to think the thermostat may be faulty and not closing all the way when cold. Since I'm a 1 1/2 hour drive away from the GM dealer I will eventually get it checked out the next time I go to the big city.

You would know if the stat was not working correctly, they will trip the code P0128 if not working properly. The ECM has to see 165° with in so many minutes after start up, if it doesn't after so many key cycles it will trip the P0128 code and will turn off the gauges other than speedo, rpm and fuel level. I know from running 160° stats over the years on GM products and doing the research on the code.

Basically the P0128 code is for a stuck open stat that does not allow proper warm up.

Remember the first recall on these trucks for catching fire while idling? The fix was a software update. Perhaps the update has something to do with the poor warm up?

After our dealer did the remote start recall and reprogrammed the ECM on our truck it was NEVER the same again. Problems just started popping up randomly one right after another with no error codes shown in the system. Heated/Cooled seats not working was one of the items on our very long list of issues. GM ended up buying ours back.

Thanks, Todd. Good to know. So far no codes have been thrown that I can see and all gauges operating normally. Will keep an eye on things until I can get to the dealer and have them check things out. Toady was much warmer than yesterday, but I'm dreading when the -20/-30C temps arrive.
