If you are worried about switching batteries, hook a spare battery or jump pack to truck before removing battery and you won't loose any settings. Just be sure not to short cables out when doing this.

X2. I have a '77 Can Am with the W72 T/A 6.6 Pontiac engine. It always runs great with one hit of the pedal. I desmogged it, but kept everything hooked up for stock appearance.

Always good to meet another W72 owner. Mine's a '79 10th Anniversary T/A. Gotta keep those old Ponchos running! And keep hoping the General comes to his senses and starts Pontiac Division back up again!

I have 4 vintage Pontiacs.

  1. 1973 GTO 400/4 Speed Muncie
  2. 1973 Grand Am 400/4 Speed Muncie
  3. 1976 LeMans police package sedan 455
  4. 1977 Can Am W72 TH400

I also have a 1972 Cheyenne Super 20 402/TH400.

Cool! Gotta have Chevy/GMC trucks for support vehicles for those classic Pontiacs. HA. Nothing better than a Tin Indian with a stick shift.

Nice lineup there, Rick! I'm jealous of your Super 20! That's a setup I'd dump my Silverado in a heartbeat for. Peanut heads and a Gear Vendors tranny on that thing and it'll beat my Silverado in MPG's ... and torque .

Well fellas, my new battery came in.

Thanks UPS! Should work much better now with that ventilation fissure you guys installed there!

Never had an issue swapping batteries. You'll be fine.

Thanks Mike.

Finally got my replacement for the battery UPS played rugby with last week. All is well. Just had to reset the clock.

Noticeable difference in cranking speed, so I guess it was getting to be time. Was reading 12.4v at rest @ about 40° when I checked it, so there's a little life left in it. Would've been dead 8 years ago without my BatteryMinder.

This reminds me of a situation last year where my wife took the truck to pull my ATV out of the ditch during a snowstorm. She parked the truck ... and when I came out the next day, the battery was stone cold dead. She told me she didn't leave anything on, and the security cameras verified that. Why would a battery go stone dead with no lights left on?? Makes you wonder if they program these things to wipe out a battery before it's time. There's enough electronics on these things to make that entirely possible. If I didn't work on these things, I probably would've bought a new battery back in '07 when it first died, and then replaced that second one after it died during the snowstorm. Just thinking out loud ...

Wife just smashed up her winter beater last night in the snow, so time to get back to work here ....
