I was at CES today and visit the chevy area and start talking to a gm employee on Mylink and the lack of apps and will their be something for 2014. He did not know but the software engineer who developed the system was here and if I wanted to talk to him he would introduce me. I said yes. I will not mention names but he said they are working on a software upgrade to bring apps to 2014 and 2015. He said that they did rush it out before it they should of. The deliever system for the upgrade they was working would be implemented thru the on star system app. I ask how would be notified of this and he said when we opened but the app a message would appear. It would then request you to attach your phone via usb to Mylink and update will occur. He said that they hope to have the iOS version available by 3rd quarter. I sent 45 minutes with him going over all the neat stuff coming out for Mylink. Gues who else at the show signing autographs. See picture

I was going over my notes from the discussion I had with Jim yesterday at CES and he did mention the first new app that they are working for the 2014 and 2015 Mylink is Telogis fleet intelligence app. They need to make sure their corporate buyer will be happy with their purchase. Once this expensive has been paid by gm development it will allow more apps to be imported. Gm is right now interview app developer to port select apps to Mylink.

Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if GM took their cue from Google or Apple in app distribution and released a SDK. Apps would have to be tightly checked for compatibility and such, wouldn't want it bricking your computer. But can you imagine the apps people could come up with?

Dream the dream..

The only feature I truly miss is the ability to receive / send text messages through mylink. Crossing fingers that they add it soon.

Galaxy S4 works fine with my 2015 for text messages.

Sales person had an iphone and it worked fine for her.

I spoke with the infotainment engineer several times, heck had two of them here in OKC twice now and asked about missing features that were shown in the product brochures and was told the 2015's would get it and the updates would not work with the 2014 system.

I hope they are wrong, and updates do roll out to the 2014 trucks.

I know when we bought my wifes 2011 MKX it had the first generation MS Sync system in it, the OS was buggy as heck. We complained and complained about it. Took about a year and Ford rolled out a new OS that new from the ground up that fixed everything. Ford has issued updates several times now and each time they have been free as long as the car was under warranty.

I would be stunned if such an upgrade would be compatible with 2014 infotainment systems. I thought the original app hub development was always destined for the '15s. Coding, deploying, and ensuring backwards compatability with systems they are not really on the hook to support or upgrade sounds unlikely.

That aside, by far the best thing they could implement wold be smart device mirroring. Why spend a ton of time and money developing vehicle apps when chances are your smartphone does it all anyway.

I want the ability to have the telephone keypad on the screen. I can't tell you how many times I call a business only to end up in the 'press 1 for this, press 2 for that...' hell and then have to wait for an operator to pick up so I can tell them who I want to reach. Unless of course the ability to do so is there and I just haven't found it yet.

I'm talking about once a call is engaged. I know the keypad is available to dial with but once the call is engaged I see no way to access the keypad.

Also, I notice when my truck starts up the screen refers to GMC IntelliLink. Is that different from the MyLink? Am I screwed?

This is a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT

You have to turn on notifications on the iPhone under bluetooth for the text messages to work

And what about Androids on the 2014?

Why not just ask Google to make a infosystem for the car.

They already have 8 inch touch screen head units.

Seems if Google made the base system, then Ford and GM added there code we would all

get a lot better system then what Ford or GM can do on there own.
