Wheel Locks

As a person who used to swipe wheels in high school, its thinking like that that will have you coming out of Walmart one day with your truck sitting on the rotors. That was back in the 90's and we could do a truck in 90 seconds. And that's without the fancy lithium ion power tools that they have today. I bet a team could do it in 30-45 seconds now. My buddy had his wheels snatched in his driveway WITH WHEEL LOCKS a few years ago and he lived in a gated community. Guess the UPS man gave out the code!!

Point is, it can happen anywhere. Cheap insurance just in case someone's looking at your ride. On STAR can't help you if they steal your shoes.

your telling me that you used to steal wheels and now your posting about it...................... I know you said it was a long time ago and you were young but that is pretty shitty of you. I kinda hope your wheels get stolen once in your life time.

to the OP if you are serious about getting wheel locks for your truck, Gorilla makes wheel lock kits where all 6 lugs on each wheel are locks using the same key. one wheel lock may or may not deter them but if you have 6 wheel locks on each wheel they will prob just say F*** it and move on to the next one. the techs at the tire store will hate you but you prob wont ever have your wheels stole.

My truck had the GM wheel locks on it when I bought it. I drove it around for about a month and read the manuals learning all the features before I wondered where the key was for those wheel locks. I didn't have it. I went back to the dealer and they found the key in the packaging with my VIN number. Fortunately I didn't have to pull a wheel before I got the key. Then I thought, I park in the garage, and there isn't much theft around here, those locks could be more of a hassle then a benefit. I could keep the key in the glove box or the console, but if it got misplaced I'd have a problem getting the wheel off. It wouldn't be much of a deterrent if I had a flat in my garage, but flats like to happen at inconvenient places and times. I took them off

Just put the key in with your tools in the truck. Not the glove box or console. Armor Locks come with a magnetic holder to hide in the truck where you can always find it. There is a thread on here where several members lost their wheels/tires due to theft. This happened right in front of their house or In the driveway. There was one story where a minister traveled to officiate a funeral and his truck's wheels were stolen at the hotel he stayed at. Big hassle, but local dealer pitched into help him get them replaced. The original wheel locks that came with my truck were installed by my dealer because they had 12 sets of them stolen right off their lot! I live in a nice neighborhood with very little crime, but I still have wheel locks and a power locking tailgate, just for piece of mind (yes, tailgates walk away too). And yes, my truck lives in the garage too most of the time...

Yep, I don't have a problem sharing as I know how it's done. We all did stupid stuff growing up. You learn and move on with life. If you don't want insider info that's fine. Let those who are without sin cast the first stone.

Just be smart and have as many layers of protection in place that you can. If it takes more time to make it happen you make yourself less of a target.

At the end of the day, if they want it, they are going to take it, and there's nothing you can do to stop it. Even though most of us think we are, ultimately we are not in control of what others do.

My father always bought wheel locks even on his Camry commuter. When I showed him pictures of my Silverado with the Texas Editions's 20" chrome rims you're describing it was one of the first thing he asked if it had. I hit up ebay and found the GM set for less than $25 including shipping. The part number I installed is 12498076 for the 14x1.50. The wheel cover for my rim fit flush over it. My wheels haven't been stolen yet.

When I bought my 2015 silverado it had wheel locks on it. bought it at home in texas and stationed in fort stewart GA. when i got to GA i realized that the dealership didn't give me my wheel lock key and don't have it ether. they said if i take it to the local chevy dealership and pay for it up front they would immediately pay me back. $100 to have them "break them off". two weeks later and still nothing. and the local dealership was telling me that GM only makes aluminum wheel locks, which is bullshit because i had the chrome ones when i bought it. the dealership called me then next day and told me they found chrome ones and ordered them FOR ME. a week later they call me and say i could come in tomorrow and get them put on. The total price is about $50 with no labor added. I go in during lunch and they can't find the damn locks. so still waiting on new locks and it will be $150 reimbursement from my home dealership. also had a nail in my tire while dealing with getting the locks removed so i wouldn't have to tow my truck. With my experience wheel locks are the biggest pain in the ass. But i want what I paid for. Anyone else have any current problems?
