Running Boards question

I am looking to buy a set of the OEM Black Rectangular 6" steps for my 2014 Sierra, but have a few questions first.. I looked on GM's website, as well as a quick search on forums and couldn't find anything.

- Where do these mount?

- How much weight can these support?

- Has anyone had issues with their steps?

I don't have them but they mount on the sheet metal. If u get under the truck, where the doors end there's some sheet metal bent and you can see holes every feet or so and they have thread. That's where they mount. I have some cheap ones off eBay and they hold easy like 600 lbs but the have 4 brackets. So I say oem should hold at least 500

Are the rocker panels pretty strong then? I've only ever seen them mounted to the frame, so I'm a little leery about getting a set that doesn't. I imagine GM wouldn't sell them that way if they didn't work though

OEMs don't connect to the frame. Only to the body. Good thing for those people who get body lifts because it brings the boards up too.

I have AMP power steps now but I had the OEM 6" rectangular boards at one point. The OEMs have 8 bolts per board. So they are held on strong. I would think that since my AMPs that only mount with 4 bolts can hold 600lbs, I would think that the OEMs could hold the same at least.

The OEMs mount with 4 bolts perpendicular to the board and 4 bolts parallel to the boards. So 4 of the bolts will be in the lip at the very bottom of the body on the sides of the truck and the other 4 you can see holes in the metal underneath and they line up with the bolt holes in the lip.

I never had an issue with my steps, the OEMs or the AMPs. Really liked the OEMs but didn't like how they were always out and were an eye sore to me. That's why I upgraded.

I have the steps you are talking about and they are strong. I installed mine by myself in about 40 min. If you have a helper it will take you less time. Quality steps and the fit is awesome. There is something to be said about OEM parts! These are bolted to the body as others have said but are very rigid. The hardware is included with the GM steps and the holes line up 100%. 8 of 16 the holes were already threaded so you wont need all the hardware.

I have the chrome ones off my truck that I am trying to sell and they took 15 mins to take off both sides. Very easy to take off and i'm sure very easy to put on. Very sturdy when they were on the truck.
