HID Problems?

okay so I'm just saying that I am now extremely happy that I got the DOT approved pods from Rigid Industries as of tonight. For the past week I have been having major issues with my HIDs and getting them to stay on for an extended period of time. Tonight during a 2 hour road trip from home to school, where most of the road isn't lit by anything but headlights and the moon. Well of course 15 minutes in my HIDs completely fail. I couldn't get them to turn on at all. A few flashes here and there from the HIDs but nothing more than a half second flash. Well thank God I had the DOT pods because they lit up the road for the remainder of the trip. They actually light up the road extremely well, better than I had previously thought. I am uploading a few pictures to photo bucket and will post them in the DOT approved pod thread.

TRS has been good, but not trouble free!!!!! I am on my 3rd Ballst and a BRAND NEW XB35 w/new trigger didn't work right out of the Box......They wanted me to again take my airbox out and swap shit but I finally said no I'm done being your R&D Center send me a new one. Luckly, I had a spare old Ballast until the replacement comes in.

I would say no since they have no problem telling you and confirming they have had Ballast issues. it is great that they are honest and are working hard at correcting the issues but swapping parts suck....

Possible but without the relay harness, HIDs won't work in these trucks

I don't use a relay harness and I'm running a 35w hid kit, I'm guessing it's different for the Sierra's?

 

I had a ddm kit give me problems when I was using a relay harness, seemed like ballast was bad, did some troubleshooting, finally replaced the ballasts, worked fine for a week or two, then problem started happening again. Got rid of the relay harness and hooked up the ballasts directly and the problems went away. Bought two hid kits for my BMW F30, only used one, used the other on my truck, been a little over a year now with no problems...

 

Both cars, no relay harness.

They will work without the harness, just seems to take longer to heat up

I think a lot of these HID issues have to do with moisture. I put a bead of silicone around every seam on all the relays and ballast ... anywhere where it remotely looks like moisture could enter. I also wrap all my connections watertight with electrical tape. Knock on wood I haven't had any bad issues. time will tell....

I have a 2015 Sierra SLT 1500 with the LED day time running lights. I was tired of the inadequate stock projectors and had GM add a 'Bright Source HID & Flicker Kit. They would not come on for an hour when -15 C. The GM dealership have now spent thousands of dollars and tested 4 new kits and the lights still fail to operate but they tell me they work fine in other 2015 GMC trucks. Now they have given up and replaced them with stock lights and given my money back. Does anyone have a solution to this problem because GM and Bright Source do not?
