So I just did a 1500 mile roundtrip road trip. Truck was great and even recorded some good mileage scores. However, at 2:44am the whole MyLink radio froze. Screen was not responding, buttons would do nothing, none of the buttons. I was still able to change stations and the adjust the volume via the steering wheel controls, so I just dealt with it. We got home at about 5:30am and I shut the truck off and went to bed, figured I would deal with it and/or take it in the following day after I slept some. Well the next day it was all back to normal and haven't had an issue since.

I feel silly taking it in to the dealer and being there for hours just to get nothing resolved and them say "bring it back if it happens again". Has this happened to anyone before? Truck is 1 1/2 months old and has 3800 miles...

I've had it happen to me once before. Let the truck sit for 10 minutes and it was back to normal. In my case I could use the buttons and the touch screen, but nothing would show. Weirdest thing. I also didn't want to take it to the dealer for them to tell me there's nothing wrong

I haven't had it happen before but I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it's a reoccurring thing. I guess you can think of it has an actual computer or computer like device. Sometimes a computer will freeze so you just have to restart it. Same with a smartphone and most electronic devices. It's not going to happen often or even at all, I'm just saying being basically a computer it's not big deal as long as it doesn't do it all the time.

silverws6 - the first time I took the truck in for service, the technician ask could he update MyLink since I was there, although I wasn't experiencing any issues. Call the dealership and provide VIN info, they will be able to tell you if there is an update for your vehicle. An update may fix the problem before it happens again

Mine did the exact same thing one night. The only buttons that worked were on the wheel. I killed it and let it sit and that corrected it, hasn't happened since.

Hello silverWS6,

I'm sorry to hear that you experienced issues with your MyLink during your trip. I understand that this concern has not returned and that you may not be ready to visit the dealership just yet. We'd be glad to collect your information and document this concern in our system. If you'd like to send me a private message with your full contact information and VIN, we'd be glad to look into this.

I agree but its a little upsetting when the "computer" is new though... and a 40k computer at that lol

I can understand that, just saying it's nothing to really be afraid of unless it keeps doing it. I would say it's a $40,000 computer, but I get what you mean since everything on these trucks seems to be operated by a computer lol. The only things that are manual are the latches lol. It's said that you can't even get a manual rear window anymore, which is why I like a solid glass on my new one. I can't even imagine the Denalis, LTZs and High Countries that have even more wires and stuff than my LT. The bad thing about all of that is that I hate wiring unless it's simple or basic so once the warranty is out and it's something electrical I'm taking it to someone lol.

Mine goes blank at times-seems to happen when vehicle is cold. 6 times in 14 months, park in insulated garage so only real cold infrequently. First trip to dealer about a year ago they said need to see issue. This year I took a pic showing the operational Driver screen and blank Nav screen-dealer accepted pic as proof. Dealer did a one hour update to my system "supposed to fix" but too soon to tell. Now other issues never experienced in 14 months...phone showed paired but call not passed by BT to car & couldn't access directory, phone showed paired...then it locked up while playing music off iPod and screen blank except for album art. I took a pic and will wait to see what gremlin is next. Guessing I have a hardware problem but it's up to me to demonstrate/prove an issue if it's sporadic.

I have a feeling that there are enough of these issues that GM should know what's going on and have a fix. But game now is dealer has to see first and they go to GM bulletins for fix. Maybe I'm being too nice and understanding?

Mine did it twice before the update, once after. Last time I was able to hit the power button, and it came back on. Gremlins I suppose

Update:

Received update and new gremlins so dealer applied a patch. Now more issues, wish I had left it with occasional blank screen. Now incoming call connects but radio keeps playing, call log on screen until other party disconnects. Outgoing return call to caller who said they were talking to me but their phone connected but mute on my end...my returned call had sound but screen remained on music, no call log.

Also locks up occasionally with iPod trying to access playlist.

Brand new 2016 Suburban LT, and its happening to me now (less than 11,000 miles and not even a year old yet! You'd think a vehicle that MSRPs for north of 80K wouldn't have these kind of problems! Started vehicle for second time today, and MyLink Screen was not working correctly. Radio failed to show current channels, audio volume froze, and navigation/weather showed "XM subscription expired". My steering wheel controls still operated the radio, just not the LED screen controls. I called XM radio and it turns out its not even their fault. Subscription is still current, it is MyLink that is at play here. I'll try again tomorrow and let everyone know if a "reboot" works.

This happened to my 2016 Silverado Z71 before I even got it off the lot. The sales guy was going over all the various features with me, and the radio controls stopped working, other than one ones on the steering wheel. Could change stations and volume, but it didn't show any change on the screen. He said it was working 5 minutes before when they were finishing the detailing job.

Anyway, it was a dealer transfer and only came with one key and fob, so they had another set on order for me.... said if it still wasn't working when I came back a few days later to pick up the new key/fob, they'd look at it.

So I drove it home, and the next time I started it, everything was working fine.

The only issue I've had since is one day last week the MyLink apparently decided to reboot while I was on my way to work.

My screen wouldn't come on a second time in two weeks this morning and about to go get my update from the dealer. They said they've had a few people with this issue and the new update fixes it.
