A couple of things I noticed on my new ride...

I just got a 2015 Sierra DC SLE 4X4 a couple weeks ago. I'm sorry if this has been covered before, but I did some searching and couldn't find anything.

Since when did GM go to the coil over shock front suspension on the 1/2 ton 4X4? My previous truck, a 2001 Silverado 1/2 ton 4X4 had torsion bar front suspension. A friend told me he is almost sure that the newer (2014-15) 2500 3500 series still do use the torsion bars.

I just wondered why and when they changed on the 1500's? I;'ve never had a problem with them on my '01. Any feedback as to how this new coil-over system is working on the newer trucks? Anything good or bad I should be worried about?

 

Also one other thing...when did they go from hydraulic power steering to the electronic and how's that working out?

 

Thanks in advance guys for any comments or info you can shed on this.

Congrats on the new truck. I beleive that they went to coil over shocks for the 900s in 2007. The electronic power steering came along for 2014, if I'm not mistaken. I've had no issues with either of them to date.

Coils on the half tons since 2007. EPAS is new for 2014.

 

3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks still use torsion bar front ends, and hydraulic assist steering.

Welcome to the group Dan and congrats on the new truck. I'm pretty happy with the coil over shocks and the power steering works fine too.

Half-ton 2WD GMT800 came with coil springs and rack & pinion steering. I believe the same applies to the GMT900; unsure about the 4WD version.

The 2wd set up on the GMT-800 trucks is a spring and seperate shock setup. Think Chevy Caprice. Shock is goes through the coil but the two are physically seperate. GMT-900 2wd and 4wd and K2 2wd and 4wd use coil over shock IFS.

They're basically the same thing, the "coilover" assembly needs less step to install at the assembly line.

My electric power steering doesn't work so good at -44f. We are in a cold snap. I guess it probably works as good as hydraulic in these conditions though. :happysad:
