Disable Amber running lights

An update for those who plan on pulling the fuse. I got pulled over tonight because my rear lights were not working. Turn and brake were fine, but driving lights were off. The fuse kills the front parking lights and the rear lights.

Officially renaming this to the "Tron Mod"...

Here's my 15' All Terrain, 35watt 4500k HID headlights and 5000k LED foglights.

As a side note... This only affects the parking lamps and night time function of the amber lights for us Canadians. During the day only the LEDs are used as DRLs and the amber function as turn signal only. At night they automatically come on with the low beams which we cannot turn off once shifted out of park. Now the ambers solely function as turn signals and hazard lights.

Looks good! Did you cut the wire or cut the contacts off the bulb?

I tried 2 ways, I didn't want to cut the factory wiring so I tried a 7441 bulb which is the same as a 7443 except single filament. You just have to make sure it's in the right way or it won't work for either running or signals. I only had one so I just snipped the contacts off of the stock 7443 bulb, making it a single filament. The outside wires on the bulb base are for signals, inside are for running lights.

Awesome, that looks like the way to go,

I just order switches and wire so I do it that way. Is now the best way in my opinion, turn then on and off from inside the cab. Cops won't be on your ass and you won't have to do so much work to change them once the cops get on your ass.

Plus if you just want to go back to having ambers (don't know why anyone would want to but then again, idk what made me want to disable them lol) then you don't have to go through the process of changing out the bulbs nor do you have to buy new ones.

Heck, if your like me then you'll have to snip a wire. I have the VLED V3 Tritons so they don't have anything else to snip

I had a couple 7441 bulbs laying around from another vehicle so i thought I'd give them a try. They're the same base a 7443 except single filament. They did have a little bump near the base that made them difficult to push in. After grinding the base a little they fit like a glove and worked only as signals. Try them first because they'll only work one way.

Also tried snipping the contacts off of the factory 7443 bulbs and they worked as well. The 7443 have 2 sets of contacts, the inner ones are the drl/park lamps and the outer are for the turn signals.

I didn't have to remove the headlights either, if you reach in behind the fender well you can actually get to the twist lock connector. A small pair of needle nose pliers helped twist them back into place. You will need to remove the airbox though which simply pops out of the grommets by pulling up on it.

Finally got around to doing this by using hutch08's method. Simple mod, took me about 20 minutes. No need to remove headlights, just the airbox to get to the passenger bulb. I used a dremel to grind of the lower tab of the bulb, after this just plug them in and ur done.

I used 7440 bulbs and kept the originals in the glove compartment just in case I ever need them.

04d263135049a0662b7e144ea1a922e0.jpg I did the mod with the switch, I decided to take the grill and Headlights off to make it easier to run the wires. While I was at it since I had extra led lights then I added two on top of the grill facing down also with a switch so I can turn them on and off when I want to.

Is plasti dip, everything was chrome. The u bars turn on with the lows or with the amber. My low beams are still DRL, but now with the amber lights disable I can turn the knob and only have the u bars on as DRL.
