Reverse Camera **UPDATE**

Yea I saw that comment. My guess is because of that new law that all 2015+ vehicles have to have a camera. I need to know where the k188 module is so I can check if the signal + and signal wires are there. If anything I think we can just jump it from hmi module k74 pin 5 and 6 to the pins 27/28 on x63a junction box which is the signals wires we need. But regardless we need to add the pins to the hmi module. I will try this maybe tomorrow (pins arrive tomorrow) I will have alot of extra pins that I won't need so I will send some to who ever wants to do this after me. You will need your own Dupont crimp pliers.

So, once you have pinned and wired the other two connections on the HMI itself, how are you going to get the power and ground to that circuit if the fuse terminals don't exist?  Do you know where on the HMI "input" to route a power and ground?  Or am I missing something?

I know you have said that fuse 31 on engine bay is for camera but all I see is upfitters sw4 there. I can't find any info saying that's the cameras power fuse. I'm thinking power is already being supplied at the rear junction block. But is signal the signal wires from the hmi and that is all. I will test everything out and post an update as soon as possible.

Yes, my reference to that fuse was based on the actual sticker label on my fuse cover.  I confirmed it on another thread, though I can't remember where.  For me personally, I checked the power at the rear junction block with my multimeter and it read 0.  You may have a different experience though.  At this point, I am leaning toward purchasing the harness from MVI and being done with it.

I think we just need to power and ground the camera harness to the reverse lights( wires from the tailgate before the junction box) . Then just connect our pin 5/6 from the hmi module to pins 27/28 on the rear junction block. Because what I gather from that paragraph is that It just says when transmission is put in R it provides power to the camera then it sends a signal to the k188 letting it know that is sending video, then that signal travels to the hmi module through those pins. Let me know if you think I'm kind of correct lol.

I agree with your interpretation.  I guess that goes back to one of my earlier thoughts regarding connecting a good power and ground.  I would try that, but I don't have my truck nearby at the moment.  Are you going to try it?

Yes I'm going to try it, I can provide power and ground to the camera itself later today but I don't have my pins yet to attach to the hmi module. I also need to find a diagram for the camera I purchase so I know what wire is what.

My problem was I gave it power and ground after the junction box, so the camera never had incoming power. So now I'm going to power it before the junction box with the tail light reverse wires. Then the cameras little motherboard will know that power is incoming so it needs to send signal through another wire into the junction box then from there it should go into the hmi module. According to the paragraph it only goes into the hmi module to pin 5/6 for a clear image. So I think it will work even if you don't send it to the hmi and just power camera and ground at the cameras harness.

Makes sense.  The "service rear vision system" message means that the HMI is properly switching to the camera input.  Theoretically, if every other connection is in place, that power and ground before the junction box *should* work.  I can't wait to find out if it does! :D

Bummer, so I power and grounded the camera, tested it and it had power and ground. But still shows service rear vision camera. So now I'm thinking it definitely needs those signal wires going into the hmi module

Dang... That's disappointing for sure. I had my hopes up.

Pins should get here tomorrow, so maybe I'll have time to try it on Friday or Saturday

So more bad news. I put the pins into the hmi module pin 5 and 6. Ran the wires to the back and connected the wires to the wires on junction block pin 27/28. Gave power and ground to the camera from the reverse tail light. And NOTHING, BIG FAT NOTHING!!. So ****ing bummed, I had high hopes of it working. I even gave it the crank/ignition voltage on the camera. Idk what to do now, I figured that would be it. If who ever decides to go through MVI and get that plug and play harness PLEASE FOLLOW UP HERE. If anyone is willing to keep trying I can crimp you up the terminals to a little piece of wire then you can extend the wires all the way to the back. No charge, just pay shipping if any 10b6e7af05fc8b6125eb997ffb4b0c23.jpg

I've ordered the MVI harness and will update once I can get it installed.  I hope it will work.  I don't really understand what differs though.  It should be, effectively, the same as what you did.

Nitro,

Here is the link to the install that MVI directed me to when I bought the harness.  However, I will not have the delay relay since I'm using the stock camera and I *think* it will be plug-n-play on the camera end.  I sure hope so because I don't want to do any more splicing than I have to.

Now I'm thinking maybe my pins didn't go all the way in, see I undid the green clip but it didn't come out like he says, it just slide to the side. I'll check that this weekend.
