Reverse Camera **UPDATE**

Recommended Posts

Can anyone confirm if the 2014 Silverado WT2 has wiring in place for the back up cam? I already have the camera and harness hooked up to behind spare. IO5 HMI that has been regreened for my truck is on the way back, praying it will be good, if not I'll need help with finding how to wire it.

Probably good to go, just playing the waiting game now. Good luck! Let us know of your progress!

Has anyone "hacked" the rear view camera so you can see what's going on in the back while driving? I thought it might be useful if towing a trailer down the highway to take a peek at the hitch every once in a while.

You can add the intelihaul, but it won't control the factory tailgate cam. Ram's rear cams come on by request at any speed.

Hey guys! I've been following this topic for a while and finally got around to *attempting* to install the OEM back up camera. I have a 2014 2WT, and similar to other posters, have been having some issues. My truck came with I04 and I have the plug with pins and wires on the rear distribution block. I ordered a 2017 I05 HMI and have had it flashed to work with my truck. Android Auto and all of that works perfectly but I get the blue screen with "service rear vision system."

I think I know what the problem is. After some research, I checked the fuse block in the engine bay. Sure enough, I did not have the 5 amp fuse in slot 31, the slot that supposedly provides power to the backup camera. There also were no pins in that slot, so it wasnt as easy as throwing a fuse in like I had hoped.

Long story short, 2014 2WT I04 trucks appear to have all of the necessary wiring EXCEPT the fused power circuit. This means we will likely have to run power from the reverse lights. I'm hoping for the best when I try that... any input is much appreciated!

Just to update, I followed the harness up to the cab and HMI. It looks like all I need is the power source now... Hoping to tackle it this weekend and see what happens.

Just did this same thing and in same boat with my WT2.

Let me know what has to be done to get the cam working buddy!

Did not get to attempt this weekend. After a wash and was, I discovered that the paint on my tailgate is bubbling... very irritated. Hoping the dealer will take care of it since it's still under th3 paint/finish warranty. I decided to wait until after that's resolved to swap it out and try again...

I have a 2014 Z71 2LT with io4 and the 4.2" screen....so if I am gathering everything correctly, the hardest part will be finding a dealer that knows how to (or is willing to) reflash the HMI?

The handle and camera installation sounds easy enough....running the wire and plugging it in seems easy enough.

Now for the people that were able to find a dealer that could/would reflash....what exactly did you have to ask for? I'd like to add this in the near future. If I have to go the route of buying a preprogrammed HMI I guess I would...but it would be nice to just have the shop take care of it.

So, I bought a backup camera from AM-autoparts on ebay. Supposedly an aftermarket alternative camera. Plugged it in, didn't even need reprogramming but it is triggering my reverse lights to stay on while in park, neutral, or drive. I don't know how to fix this without getting a new camera. Something I'm trying to avoid having to do. Any ideas?

I've got an '18 Denali w/ the Infotainment screen and backup camera.. does anyone know if there is a way to set up a front cam for this? Only thing I have seen is a $1,400 package available from the dealership which seems obscene.

How hard is it to route the camera from the back of the truck to the front?

Squirrels got to mine this weekend in the Sequoias :(

Do you have the part number available? The item can often be sourced at other sellers for cheaper.

I'd like to add another camera or two to my truck. I have the tailgate backup cam which is nice, but it's useless when the tailgate is down. I often have loads in the truck where the tailgate needs to be down. I'd like to install one in the rear bumper.

One on the front could be handy as well.

Alternatively, I may try to source a 2 channel dash cam with 2 remote cameras and a central monitor/recorder.

You guys are in luck. I have been doing a ton of research on this. YES GM offers a full function camera system for their trucks. Unfortunately they are too stupid to advertise it or inform their dealers of its existence. There are actually 2 brands that I have found that will work with the OEM infotainment system. One of them is made EchoMaster and is referred to as IntelliHaul by GM. It even has GM part numbers. I'll warn you... This process seems to be deliberately complicated as you can order each camera separately or with the base system. You need to make sure that you only order one with the base system and the rest as just stand alone cameras. All the parts can be found by going to your brands website and searching the accessories section(also a terrible experience).

https://echomaster.com/intellihaul/

The other system is made by ADC. It seems to have all the same functionality as IntelliHaul but adds and HDMI input as well. They make it a lot easier to see what you want and just add the cameras you need.

I've seen a camera from EchoMaster that is specifically made for the Silverado/Sierra 3rd Brake Light above the cab. Would something like that work or are you needing a below the tailgate view?
