Reverse Camera **UPDATE**

Recommended Posts

Sat in a 19 Silverado about a week and a half ago, it had an option on the infotainment system that allows you to use the rear camera without being in reverse. ***Keep in mind, I didn’t try this in drive, only sitting in the dealership’s lot. ***
That's possible now getting that option unlock in the hmi module. I guess they are giving those options now free for certain trim

Yeah it's limited to 8 seconds I think. Still very handy.

My 2015 Silverado came with the back-up camera but the 4.2" screen.  I ripped all that stuff out and put an aftermarket Pioneer radio in it.  It took some work but I also added a forward facing camera under the front end so I could see my tires in relation to the trail.  My wife, bless her heart, is NOT a good spotter so this was the best thing I could come up with.  I also managed to get the rear camera to come on whenever I want, but I can't remember how I did it.  I think it was an option in my radio?  It's been a couple of years since I've gotten to drive my truck so I couldn't tell you off-hand.  I will tell you though, switching over to an aftermarket radio was one of the best things I could've done.  My dad has a 2014 Colorado with the 8" touchscreen radio and I can do SOO much more with mine.  Just an idea for those interested...

Has anyone swapped a 2016 or 2017 camera for the one on the 2015? I have a 2015 silverado and the camera is blurry even after cleaning.

Same camera.  Only differance is (i think) is the 16 17 18 have the auto lock/unlock

So not better quality camera? Is the auto lock feature for the tailgate lock? Would that affect use on the 2015?

Yes. It has a different locking mechanism.  My first camera was from a 14 15. I have a 16. So i tried to take the mechanism out. And springs went flying

Are you talking about the tailgate handle? I'm just talking about swapping out the camera. The camera can be bought separately.

Day, night, both? If it’s night only do you have aftermarket (led) bulbs in either the tag lights and/or reverse? On my 015 I noticed after swapping everything in the rear to LED (including factory LED tails) the camera at night now sucks (I’d call mine grainy if anything) not that it was ever that great to start with. On some other threads on here some guys say they have had interference issues with some LEDs and the cam. Just a thought.

My grainy/blurry view is all of the time unfortunately. I think I might by a 2016 or 2017 camera because it sounds like from some other people that it has helped them.

My camera quality sucks too lol. Why couldn't they put nice camera. Shoot smartphones have amazing cameras and so small. I'm sure someone can rig something up but would still suck cus the screen is potato quality

Here is a picture of mine this morning. My wife has a 2015 Edge and her camera quality is 10x better than my 2015 Silverado. I've heard some people at the beginning of this thread or some other thread say they swapped out cameras with a new oem one. I might bite the bullet here soon and get an oem 2016 or 17 one off of ebay if I can find a good deal.
