Got caught in some deep snow today and had to use 4Lo for the first time....afterwards I got the 4wd off service message and tried everything to get it back out. Neutral, reverse everything. Drove it at 3500 rpm and 30 mph to the dealer and of course it switch over after it warmed up a lil bit in the garage bay. May have just been a hiccup just thought I would share.....on a side note it did very well pulling a pn extremely steep hill with snow drifts about 3 and half feet high with the goodyear ls2s.....a friend of mine has a new dodge that's still sitting at the bottom of that same hill.

Do you know if you had the recall done for the transfer case? It may have been done before you bought it and the dealer would be able to look up what recalls had been done.

To add to what you said. We finally got a little snow here, just enough to need or want 4x4. Well even though it wasn't much it was still a night and day difference between this truck and my old 98. That goes without saying though lol. The auto 4x4 worked great but looks like starting tomorrow I won't need it anymore so I can put it back in 2hi. I'm not one of those people that drive around everyday in auto 4x4 with it dry or just wet pavement lol. I used to hate driving around in 4hi in my 98 when some spots I needed 4x4 while other spots all the snow melted and was just wet.

I put mine in 4 auto for the light snowy stuff 4hi if I’m going straight but am dealing with drifting. Very flat here so you can get 3ft drifts in minutes on some roads.

In the summer I put 4 auto on one time in a extremely bad rain storm as I could feel the truck hydroplaning.

I also once or twice a month in the summer exercise the 4x4 go through all of the settings just to push the fluid around in the transfer case.

Only had mine get stuck in 4hi once now error just no indicator light on the dial when it was in 2hi. I could feel it was still in 4hi cycled the switch and it went over but drove the truck a bit first to heat up the engine and drivetrain.

I almost think something is freezing in place.

Try to just put it back in 2hi before I park it.

Yeah the dealer checked the recall and said I wasnt affected, I believe it was a product of the extreme cold temps -18 and packed snow. I am still extremely impressed with the performance of this thing in the snow, and that's with the Goodyears.

YA my truck performed great in the snow even though it wasn't really that bad, even with the factory Goodyear SR-As. It was only one time where it lost grip but it was in deep slush and it kind of pulled me toward the side of the road. I keep my tire pressure at about 40-41 so that might have had some part in it.
