TPMS/Valve Question

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on having my stock wheels powder coated next week. I'm going to remove the TPMS and valve to have them coated.

Do I need to purchase new valves or can I reuse the ones I take out? Truck has 3800 miles on it so the valves are still new. I tried searching and didn't find anything on this.

With that low of mileage you can reuse if taken out properly. But you can buy them cheap from Discount Tire just for peace of mind.

Honestly I'd cut them and get new ones. You can get them out but chances are they will break. Just gotta work them out of the wheel opposite the way they go in which is from inside the wheel. So you'd have to pull them out from inside the wheel. Because the base of the rubber is bigger where it attaches to the sensor, you can't pull them out from the top.

Thanks for the info, my buddy has a lift and a tire machine. So we are going to take the tires and sensors out before having the wheels coated.

Just trying to get as much info as possible before doing this.

Didn't see valves on discount tire? only tires and rims...

Any stores that sell them, If I have to I will go to the stealership.

Doing my 20" polished rims this week, had the rubber stripped off the rims and the TMPS taken out. The dealer screwed into the tire valve and punched it out. Was asking about reusing the valve stems but was warned about the potential for leaks.

Cheap to put new ones in

What do you mean screwed into the tire valve?

There is a torx bit screw that screws the sensor to the bottom of the metal stub hanging out of the rubber stem base.
