I have had my sierra for almost half a year now. My previous truck was a 2007 Tundra.
I must say that I like almost everything about my truck except for 1) squeaky interior and 2) more importantly = the pedal position/ distance.

Forget the squeaks, as they are something I can live with or eventually fix. But .... the pedals are driving me crazy! To the point where I regret buying this thing! The funny part is that I even have the adjustable pedal option, but I can never find a comfortable position. In my opinion both vertical and horizontal positions between the gas and brake pedal are horrible! My leg always feels overworked after every trip, and traffic is a nightmare. My knees are killing!!

Does anyone else feel this way?

 

My second car is a 2012 Audi s4, the pedals are so close to each other and perfectly spaced.

I've never had that problem, but I've also tried out trucking and done local delivery so I'm used to both of my legs moving all the time. Especially when I was trucking and drove in the mountains. I even drive an auto with 2 feet even though some people will try to tell me I probably ride the brake and all that when I don't. I've also never had adjustable pedals.

 

The seat moves more than you may know so try the seat in other positions.

I am talking about the distance between the pedals themselves. There is a too big a vertical and horizontal gap.

I know what you mean, I don't like the spacing either but I've learned to adjust. My theory is the wider spacing makes it more difficult for bad drivers to mistake the gas for the brake and thereby not plowing into someone's house or business. Probably GM's CYA policy .I may be wrong so nobody get excited, ok? BTW, has anyone noticed this on other new vehicles?

Rather it was my 86 Chevy Custom Deluxe C10, 98 Silverado, this '14 Silverado, my mom's 98 Stratus or 06 Impala and all of the commercial trucks I've driven I've never had a problem with pedal location.

Personally I don't find the pedals in a different location that any other vehicle I've driven regularly. I have my pedals all the way to the bottom in my Sierra. I test drove a Ram Sport before buying my Sierra and even with adjustable pedals I couldn't get them to be comfortable. The top of my foot and ankle got sore during short trips because they were at a weird angle for me.

I haven't noticed any issues with mine. My last 3 vehicles have been GM though, so maybe they are similar.

Of Course It's Damp Underfoot!  That strikes me as a very petty complaint to make at a time like this!

I don't have any leg pain or anything like that, but I do wish the brake medal wasn't so much farther forward than the accelerator pedal. I wish there was a way to close that gap a little.

Try putting on some size 12 hunting boots and get 5 lbs of mud on them, then go drive your truck. You'll be glad they are far apart. But for the height of the pedals, I agree. IMO, they should be level with each other. It's a carry over from old designs, IMO. I don't mind the spacing between the two, but I don't understand why the brake pedal is so much higher than the gas pedal. First vehicle I've owned where the height difference was so drastic. Seems wrong to me that in a quick brake maneuver I have to lift my foot and leg high, then slide left, then press down on the brake. I'd much prefer being able to just lift off the accelerator, twist/slide left at the ankle and be on the brake pedal.

 

Service guys at a dealership told me they did that for people that brake with their left foot, but I don't believe that answer. Only reason I can come up with is having it higher means you can slide down to the accelerator easier and be on the gas faster, making the truck seem more responsive. But that's also dangerous since it means an accidental slide off the brake puts you in forward motion.

This just sounds like a personal problem. Do you drive with both feet or something? Or place more than just the ball of your foot on the pedal?

I drive autos with 2 feet and never had that problem. I also let me left foot kind of rest right beside the brake pedal when not using it. If I'm around town I'll hover the foot over the brake pedal.

If the booster fails or the vehicle stalls a higher pedal gives you more leverage to activate the service brakes.

    • I have the same running boards on my truck and I do agree they are bulky. I also find myself stepping over them when getting in and out of the truck. Besides providing protection to the rocker panels, they aren't very useful.  I will be replacing them soon with the Amp Powersteps. 
    • Monthly payment is only part of the equation. With today's prices and interest rates, I'd look at the total monthly cost: payment, insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, and expected repairs. A vehicle that fits comfortably into your budget is usually the better choice than stretching for a higher trim. I've also kept my vehicles longer over the past few years. New cars have gotten expensive enough that driving one for 10+ years, while staying on top of maintenance, often ends up being the most cost-effective approach.

    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.
