Sierra guys... help me understand trim levels

Recommended Posts

Posted

Having always been a Chevy guy I know the trim levels in the Silverado are as follows highest to lowest...

HIGH COUNTRY

LTZ

LT

LS

WT

I'm a little confused about the Sierra trucks trim levels. Obviously Denali is the top gun, but I'm not sure how the trims go from there.

Thanks, Bill :D

The only other ones I know is that SLE is like LT and SLT is like LTZ. You'd think GM would switch it around so LT and SLT were equal, but that's my OCD working again lol.

I've also always had Chevy's myself, so it's a surprise I knew that much.

You got it.

From top to bottom;

Denali

SLT

SLE

Sierra

Looking at it when compared to Chevy, based on standard features per trim should be something like this;

Denali

High Country

SLT

LTZ

SLE

Sierra

LT

WT

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but pretty sure I nailed that. I think the SLT nudges out the LTZ just based on its standard leather, although both are basically the same.

Also, before someone comes to yell at me. I think the base Sierra nudges out the LT based on several standard features; projector headlights (albiet they are not all that great)

The official view would probably be:

- SLT with All Terrain (since its an added option)

- SLT

- SLE with All Terrain

- SLE

Sierra (base)

I wanted an SLT minimum and I liked the body colour bumpers on the All Terrain however I couldn't stomach the faux carbon seats or the door panels. I think it really dtracts from the interior. I love the SLT black leather seats with their white stitching.

However this is a controversial opinion - some love them, some hate them. You really need to see them in person to decide.

I nearly orderted an All Terrain but after reading a few blogs about them I luckily didn't. Its too bad, I really like the other features in that package.

SLT and LT were basically the same from 99-07c. With body style change in 07 the LTZ was added and complicated things

If you base the trim levels on the "Build You Own" functions of the web sites, the above comments hold true. However when you factor in the fact that the dealers can pick and choose individual features to create vehicles that they feel will sell better in their market, the trim level hierarchy gets very cloudy. It is as though they can create a SLT that is better equipped than a Denali for example.

X2.

The lack of cooled seats on the A/T also affected my decision.

To answer the original question.

Denali=High Country

SLT=LTZ

SLE=LT

Sierra=W/T

Well, not true. There are some features that are trim specific, such as the magnetic ride suspension, which is Denali exclusive. The gauge cluster, and infotainment screen are also exclusive to the Denali and cannot be ordered on the SLT's. Not to forget the infamous "honey comb" grill as well. You couldn't say this between the SLE and SLT either since the 6.2 is only an option on the SLT and above trims.

Denali > High Country

For whatever reason GM does not offer the Max Trailering Pkg on the High Country nor the magnetic ride. The Denali also has its exclusive instrument panel that is also not available on the High Country.

The SLT and LTZ are pretty much the same though, but the SLE > LT based on standard options. Its more like base Sierra = LT, then then the W/T at the bottom.

OK, so does "All Terrain" equate to "Z71"?

I'll take the better looking interior over MRC and different gauge cluster. :chevy:

Max Trailering isn't available on the Denali either. It's SLT/LTZ only. :confused:

Take a look at a base 'Sierra' interior. It's definitely closer to a W/T than an LT.

I would argue it's more like a Z71 Custom Sport.

I was annoyed by that as well - but got the A/T anyhow - also, I have a "special" AT that has the painted bumpers WITHOUT the steps (no longer offered on any GM truck - period) and w/ black on black and step-delete it really looks clean, reminds me of last-gen Escalade EXT

Problem w/ cooled seats is that they have a dual function - while the seats cool the passenger's asses off up front, they act as HEAT vents in the rear, which is very counter-intuitive, particularly when there is no rear HVAC to begin with....

All Terrain would be the trim level base, and Z71 identifies that it has the offroad package 4x4, Z66 used to mean that it was a 4x2. My 37cents.

LTZ has leather standard too.

Also, another thing to consider. There are two levels within the LTZ trim, LTZ 1LZ and LTZ 2LZ. I don't think they offer SLT1 and SLT2 anymore? The window sticker on my Sierra just says 'SLT'.
