ok got off the phone with the local dealership and according to the service manger, "the 2015 have a different high output v8 motor that gm could not get to run right on e85 and gm is starting to phase out flex fuel. I have no idea why, and my head mechanic serched the internet and could not find anything; that option is only available on the v6 models for 2015. I do believe that the only thing that would be different is the o-rings and gaskets on the injectors and pump tho" That sounds like total B.S. to me. I thought the motor were the same for this gen?

^^^^^^^Just read that post and called my dealer. They said they don't do that but wouldn't offer any specific reasoning other than that is a type of option that can't install after the fact.

I've got another resource I'll reach out to to see what he says or if he knows someone with a definitive answer.

Nope. Still cheaper. Pump 2 blocks from the house.

2/10ths quicker in the 1/8 and that's tuned for both E85 & 93Oct

You were lied to. No new engine.

My friend just posted this on Facebook June 21. He lives in Texas.

It would have to be significantly cheaper to be worth the loss of fuel economy.

One significant problem with that "analysis" is that straight gasoline is getting almost impossible to find in most areas of the country. In Texas, there is no straight gasoline offered anywhere in the entire state at main stream gas stations. It's predominately E10 with increasing encroachment of E15 & E85. The odd Mom & Pop shop may have it but the last count I remember (aside from aviation/marine facilities) was about 50 for the entire state.

The point being mileage differentials (and therefore cost differentials) are non-trivially reduced.

I filled up yesterday. 1.66.

And comparing to regular isn't really right. You should be comparing to 91+.

The L86 6.2L recommends 91+ and the guys doing the conversions are definitely seeing a cost differential improvement.

The only thing not practical about E85 is it's lack of widespread availability that would impact long range trips. Also, the absolute reduction in mileage means that when your low fuel warning comes on, you better be looking for a pump most riki tik.

I agree that most of the country is E10 now, and it bothers me. I've seen many an older car's fuel system destroyed by ethanol. Replaced more than a few Malibu fuel pumps.

Wow ok that would make a big difference if you can regularly find it that cheap.

This is interesting because I am going to buy at the end of the year and I have been watching prices in my area at the various dealerships. I am seeing a drastic reduction in the amount of 2015 LTs sitting on the lot with the E85 option from just a month ago. I am finding a few and more sierras than silver does have it still but I wonder if that is all older stock and GM really is phasing it out? Or are the e85 equipped trucks selling faster in my area? Watching closely.

I would much rather pay more for ethanol free gasoline but I am interested in what you guys find out from the dealership about the E85 conversion.

There are stations in TX and other states that overcharge for E85 for whatever reason. I pay between 1.55 and 1.89.

Ethanol is abo 30 cents cheaper at gas station i pass. It was 1.89 about month and half ago but now 2.23 i believe
