We use Google maps on our phones.

Works great.

No issues using Android Auto and pairing with the new car.

Simple, easy.

I use that and WAZ on my phone. Rarely get caught in a traffic jam. That’s saying something going East on I-10 from Texas.

Hey guys I've got my first Silverado 2018 . When I bought my truck I was told that the first owner bought a lifetime navigation upgrade. Is this a true upgrade?

You can use google maps or Apple maps by just connecting your phone to the truck.  Always up to date.

Not if you have a 2014-2015.5 truck (at least not without changing out hardware) ....

I get the logic on GMaps and Waze however there are still dead areas in the country for cell service where you will lose GPS. I realize that on some phones you can download the route prior to making the trip but that is for predetermined trips. Another point is that not everyone has opted for the unlimited plan so if you go over your monthly plan it racks up pretty fast. The update is pretty expensive through the GM site, around $160 but I decided to get it for our east coast and west coast trips.

I bought a map update from Here company that claims to have the genuine GM/Chevrolet map updates. I will NEVER buy another update again form this company. The USB deleted my navigation system and never installed the correct map. The Technical assistance line is just a phone operator reading off a bunch of standard trouble shooting tips. I had to take my truck to the dealer and they could not get the map to install either. The HERE company is not helping and from what I can tell they can't help. They have no technical expertise. I spent 145.00 at the dealer plus the cost of the usb. At that price I could almost buy a completely new infotainment system module.
