Manhattan Beach Police Silverado

So why do they need a bull bar (or whatever they're called here in the US) on a beach? Protect their front end from those crazy sunbathers? ;)

Just cause its a beach partrol doesn't mean it's not aloud to get in on a chase

Its either a 2wt or an LS. A lot of companies will often donate items such as lifts, tires, wheels, ect to law enforcement or emergency response groups.okay, so now you have a 4 wheeler or side by side thats not street legal, can easily be disabled by a car, cant be used to transport criminals and isnt weather tight. Not to mention they would also need to be trailered so now your adding a trailer and... oh, look, back to needing a truck to tow and a patrol vehicle for the streets.

A lifted truck is a much better multi-purpose vehicle than a side by side or atv could even dream of being. A lifted truck is also cheaper than the alternative and more secure.

The truck is a smart move.

not in a case of a heavily populated beach or one with real dunes. if you need a lot of patrol you can trailer multiple side by sides or quads with one truck. there is a reason almost every department with a beach has them. it does make sense.

also on a side by side you can transport people to the end of the beach to the patty wagon.

a lot of beaches do not allow cars so being disabled on those beaches by a car is a long shot.

truck is not cheaper. no way you put it unless it was free but then the side by side or quad could have been too.

plus you must not have read the rest of my post supporting it or my second post saying how it makes sense and is not a waste. plus mentioned it might have been donated. post #21. i agree the truck is a smart move in the correct situation. so is the side by side or quad.

Mannnnnnnn, I been eyeing this push bar (go rhino 3171b.)for a while but never seen it on a truck until now and I must say I NEED IT NOW!

It looks like a wt 2,there is no lights on the front bumper.

Some LT don't have fog lights either. 2wt has black honeycomb and matte black top bumper cap, I know cus mine is a 2wt.

The MB police are likely to encounter more weird things than we can imagine. It's THE beach that is all the old movies. It's where they have the big volleyball tournies and bikini contests. Millions of people come to that beach and their little city during the summer. On a hot day, I bet the city population doubles. That's a big burden on the PD. But they get a lot of tax money from the businesses that cater to the crowds.

Like I said earlier, that truck is still less than a Tahoe or Suburban that virtually all the PDs have around Socal for their emergency response teams. I'll bet that bed box has a AR-15 and a shotgun in it.

No way the tool box has guns in it. They would NEVER subject those tools/weapons to the humidity in that box. Plus that would be much harder to get to than having them in a rack in the truck. Can you imagine having to stop then get out then climb in the bed then unlock the box all before having the right gun in your hands? Nope.

Nice truck. I've seen much greater wastes of government money-the wheels are a bit over the top-I'm sure they could've gotten cheaper wheels. I also have seen forums for political discussions more appropriate for that discourse. ;)

You have to remember that not all vehicles police buy are off the lot. It might have been a seizure, for example. Not saying this isn't waste, it might be, but we can't rule it as such.

One of the towns I visit in Central GA has 2 or 3 Hummer H1s (I think one of them is an actual Humvee) they bought in auction for less than a new cruiser.

In the end though, it just depends on how free your city feels with the budget your taxes gives them.

tahoe's start at $46,300

The PPV Tahoe's are around $36,000 and the old body style was about $32,000

Silverado Police there shows for $26k and looks like the one seen.

Maybe it's one of those + lift?

    • Those  headrest speakers look fun! Standard panoramic roof on the AT4X might be a deal breaker for me unless I can delete it. Maybe I should just supercharge my truck and call it a day. We'll see what I think of all the new trucks when I see them in person.
    • "Increase"?   You want to "increase" your turning radius?     What is your truck?  What kind of cab and bed do you have currently?  Is it stock?  Modified?  Lifted?
    • OP's quote is parts and labor.  Not just parts.     The # you found isn't the right one.  But besides that, the right # is the same price within a couple bucks.  $5802.01.    Now, factor in labor and fluids.  Book time is 17.1 hours for a Colorado 8 speed.  At $200/hr for a dealer average rate, its $3420 just in labor.  We are already at $9222.  Fluid and other necessary items, there's your $400-500 more.      Also.  Your "discounted" transmission.  Which is 99% likely quoted off of GM Parts Direct as that's the MSRP I found on their site.    You failed to note the $597 in shipping charges.  So we are right back almost to MSRP.  $5794.  Oh.  AND, you better have the $4000 for the core charge which you'd have to pay and get refunded, AND you gotta pay to SHIP THE CORE BACK.    So now you'd have paid MORE to buy that one online yourself, even after you get your core refunded.

    • Length/amount of data capture will be important to consider, sifting through 5 minutes of a data log can be enormous when it is stored in milliseconds. Being able to find the 'event' let alone decipher it.   Presumably the driver would notice something and hit a button to capture the 'window' of data. That window has to be large enough for the operator to recognize the event and react accordingly.    The data has to be able to be retrieved easily.   The data has to be able to be understood. Which is the biggest challenge, dealer techs won't even know what most of it is and would likely not even look at it if an owner brought it to them. Meaning the owner, the least educated/qualified, trying to understand it.    How will the data be presented? Could specific PIDs be selected and a timelapse graph be watched? How will a specific value be noted as abnormal? Additionally, a good data logger would be able to 'learn' normal values for a specific vehicle and flag abnormalities automatically. It could in theory watch parameters degrade over time and suggest maintenance as needed. (If the MAF reading begins tapering off for a given set of other readings - MAP, throttle position, Ambient, etc.. a flag to check air filter.) With the amount of data available, a device (really the vehicle rather than an additional accessory) should be able to do more than issue a DTC. It should be able to run the full diagnostic suite automatically and present a solution rather than a code. (It's not the 90's anymore). The technology is available for the vehicle to not just say "P0087", it should know low fuel pressure, check other PIDs to narrow down the problem itself, and determine if it is a lift pump, high pressure pump, regulator, leak in the fuel line, clogged filter, etc. Even if it can't narrow it down, it should be able to guide the user to the likely problems.   This would be a major problem for dealer service departments, which are the manufacturers customers it is in their collective best interest to NOT have this available to the consumer.   Further, if the owner is going to be the primary consumer of the data, it's got to be at a consumer price point vs. dealer only specialty tool price.   This group is more 'involved' in their vehicle than general public/consumer and will have knowledge, experience, needs and desires that are quite different from the market at large.
