Opinion on this truck?

Hey guys my name is Wyatt I have recently made the decision to get a gmc/chevy pickup to replace my Toyota 4runner. I found a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 W/T (What does W/T mean?) with the 5.3l vortec and only 109000 miles! It also is 4x4 and has the z71 package. What should I pay for this and how good are these engines? I have been a Toyota guy so I don't really know much about them but I know that the 5.3s are pretty decent right?

What are some things I should be looking for(Problems)? The guy said there is no rust on frame and I was thinking of trying to get it for 5000 or 5500. They are asking 7000 but I can get it down, lol. Thanks guys!

Very nice looking truck, 5.3 is a great engine, exceptional miles, fit and finish for that gen was outstanding

WT is work truck which that looks like an SLE so it has more features in it than a WT. I see a new differential cover out back so I'd crawl underneath and look for rust or painted over rust. New cover stands chance that the original one rusted through and started leaking. I can tell you that it was originally a New York truck hence my rust suspicions and the fresh paint job also makes me question it. Truck may have had cab corners replaced and bed sides sprayed after potential rust repair. The Z71 stickers being from a different year and their incorrect placement for that year truck, and no door moldings are proof for the fresh paint.

 

I'd also check and make sure the fog lights work. All I can see is either a black lens paint over them.

I would be worried that they just slapped the stickers on just to move the truck. It very well could be a Z71, but i have my suspicions. Also i would be worried about the roof clearance lights which did not come on a 1500

I'd be skeptical on that. It may very well be an SLE Z71, but it seems like a lot of work has been done to it. Not to say it might not be a solid truck, I would just want to investigate fully what I am about to purchase.

I don't think it is a z71 at all as I looked at it on there website http://auto.com/cars/GMC-Sierra-1500-W/T-2004-2GTEK19TX41189737 it states it has a regular suspension and doesn't say anything about gas shocks or skid plates which the z71 has also the right rear bumper is pushed in and they have the spare tire in the bed so that means the spare tire carrier is broke or missing. Since they painted it why didn't they replace the rear bumper and put a spare tire carrier back on it, I think that truck was pretty well used and abused.

 

Look at the bed, the tailgate looks like a spray on liner but the bed it self has a drop in plastic liner over top the spray in liner so that means to me that the bed under the plastic liner is damaged and there trying to hide it. Check that truck out very close if your going to buy it. If it would be me I would move on to something else.

Where are the fog lights, door moldings, and why the roof marker lights?

The incorrect bedside decals and the two different bedliners alone would be enough for me to not even want to look at the truck.

 

Funny how that spare tire is placed in the bed right where a 5th wheel or gooseneck mount would be. I bet if that plastic liner comes out, one will be there.

 

I would imagine that if you were to lift the hood and take a look at that thing, it's going to have issues. You can hide bad body with paint but it's much harder to cover up mechanical issues.

 

Find someone that's honest to buy a truck from. Don't even waste your time with this clown.

Tailgate is from 99-01. "Sierra" emblem is a giveaway there. Also DL3 mirrors but no fog lights also shows something wrong. They arent being honest

I pulled the VIN. Truck came with fog lights and DL3. Truck is also a Z71.

Crawl underneath and check the brake and fuel lines

Have a look at the brake fluid in the master cylinder,if it's super clean then there's a good chance it's leaking brake fluid and it's being topped up on a regular basis

Take it for a drive and hammer the brakes

That price needs to come down a lot

Putting money into a $2000 used truck you kinda of expect,putting a lot of money into a $6000 is a different story

Just because it shows as a low miler really doesn't tell the whole story

Buying used is always a crap shoot,but it sure beats spending $50,000
