CCW Options

I've got a 2015 Sierra crew cab with center console. I was not happy with various easily-accessible holding spots for my CCW, and came up with using the Blackhawk line of QD mounting options. I used one $8 male adapter- here: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/HST-1001-167?td_source=fbt

One $13 female adapter here: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/20-CQC-430952CT?td_source=bundle

and one $24 SERPA holster for a Beretta 92 here: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/20-CQC-413504BK-R?td_source=bundle

I drilled three .25" holes though the map pocket on the left side of the console in the driver's footwell and mounted the female adapter plate there. The adapter comes with three barrel buts that mount from the inside of the map pocket- I managed to get all three bolts to match up with areas that I could get to the back of without having to remove the console. Total install time was about 5 minutes, and is a rock solid mount. The male adapter replaces the paddle or belt mount on the rear of the holster. To unmount the holster, there are two tabs that are fairly easy to get to, and once removed, the female adapter remains in the truck. Pistol is easy to get to and draw, and fairly hard to see looking through the windows. I tried using a left handed holster but the button to release the pistol was not accessible to my right thumb since it was designed to work with left index finger, and I like the locking mechanism- the pistol is not coming out of the holster without hitting that black button. During mock up, I thought it might stick out a little too far into the footwell, but it hasn't touched my leg in the 5 days since I did it.

I think I will go ahead and get a SERPA holster for a 1911 too.

That's not very "concealed". I don't think that would fly here in Texas.

Definitely not. At least not until 1/1/17. A handgun in the state of Texas has to be concealed from view while on state/public roads inside of a vehicle whether you have your CHL or not.

I applaud your effort but I'd think when it came down to a life threatening situation having it mounted like that would make it awful hard to draw and ready the weapon effectively in a short amount of time with it being backwards.

And please don't ever leave your gun in your vehicle in plain sight.... Asking for it to get broken into and stolen and pretty reckless gun ownership if you ever do so.

Even if you open carry, the second you get into a vehicle (even a motorcycle) it's 'concealed'

However even with a handgun, in Texas, there are several places where a person may possess a handgun legally without the benefit of a Texas Concealed Handgun License (CHL). These places include:

A persons residence or other real property under their control.

A persons private motor vehicle or watercraft if the handgun is concealed, and the person is legal to possess a firearm, is not a member of a street gang, and is not engaged in the commission of a crime greater than a Class C misdemeanor traffic or boating violation.

Don't know about Texas CCW laws, but do know Arkansas'. If it is in a vehicle and not on the dash, it is "concealed". And no, it doesn't live there unless my leg is next to it.

Not in Texas - it still has to be out of visible sight. I.E. in the glove box, under a seat, etc. You can have in vehicle without a CHL, but it has to be visibly concealed.

Probably too late now considering you've already drilled and I assume you're happy with your set up. But I'm getting ready to do this in the console of my 2002 Silverado. Not sure if the depths of the center consoles are totally different than they were back in 02.

Going to open the lid and then get some of that heavy duty Velcro with the sticky on the back side and stick it to the left side of the inside console. Then this holster will Velcro to that and then you stick the gun down into the loop. You can adjust the loop for different size guns. I have the same holster inside of a CCW backpack and it's a pretty sweet set up for a very low price.

The gun would sit in the console just like it would on your hip, barrel pointed down and the grip ready to grab and draw in a life threatening situation. You can adjust the loop for different size guns. I have the same holster inside of a CCW backpack and it's a pretty sweet set up for a very low price.

In Oklahoma as long as it is out of sight and that can mean under a hat or a towel then it is concealed. It doesn't have to be in a compartment, just cant be openly seen. Plus if you are a CCL holder most states require that as soon as you are stopped or detained by LEO you have to notify them first thing that you are carrying or have a weapon with in reach.

you could always go first class and get a gun vault especially fitted for your center console that also locks - of course you lose some storage space for other things like your Ozzy Osbourne CDs.....

Just installed mine last weekend. Nice unit. However, this doesn't replace a "holster" or some other system for quick access. I will only use mine when my firearm needs to stay in the truck and I have to hand the vehicle to someone else (dealership, tire store, detailer, etc.).

You guys are making this a lot harder than it needs to be. If you have bucket seats... Just slide it under the front of your seat. Simple and free, and no drilling. There is some plastic at the bottom of the seat that sits a few inches off the ground. Easy... and hidden. Plus you get it to just as quickly as any set up. I have stored many smaller pistols there.... that a .357 Ruger in there now.
